Zinc primer then standard primer?

Hi peeps I've got a classic mini restoration project and replacing most of the panels with new, my question is on new panels they are coated with Black paint do I have to just lightly sand it to key and then do i use standard primer or zinc primer or what is high build primer there is too many to choose from lol thanks.

I would also strip the shipped coating. That way you KNOW that you have the best adhesion.

I'd use epoxy.

If you want increased protection and some galvanic protection I'd use an epoxy mastic, something like Jotamastic 90A. The A stands for aluminium and protects the steel in the same way that zinc paint does (or can)
For maximum protection I'd use a zinc rich epoxy like Jotan Barrier 80.
The Barrier 80 is over the top for what you are doing but that hasn't stopped me using it.

For non visible work such as chassis or suspension parts, an epoxy mastic like the Jotun range is ideal. For bodywork, or for conventional spraying, Lechler 29107 is the animal because it is designed for automotive use. I can supply if you don't have anyone local.

on the underside and suspension on my cars I just use Jotun 87, and leave it at that, no top coat, stonechip or underseal. The advantage of epoxy primer that it is non porous unlike other primers and has better adhesion than zinc primers so more resistant to chipping.

sand off the black coating , on oem factory parts its good quality , aftermarket anyones guess and is often just a mist of celly to keep the damp away until its sold

and yes epoxy...2 part epoxy , you can get 2k aerolsols but theyre £20 for 400ml so would be crazy to do a whole car in it

@fizzy I don't disagree about the m902, it's great stuff.

However all the big industrial paint manufacturers (Jotun, Sherwin Williams, Hempel, International etc.) will do similar paints.
Some are better than others but they are all far better than standard paints.
I'd say just go with the one that is available at a reasonable cost.
I use Joton because I can buy it locally in Belfast (Patterson Industrial Coatings) and have gotten used to it.
I'd also maintain that all things being equal, the prep (or lack of it) will be more important then the flavour of paint used.

Again thanks to you all for the help, and steveo3002 I dont plan on doing the whole car in aerosol its just there are certain panels I'm not gunna be able to see or get to once the car is fully built, so 2k apoxy primer do I presume that's just as dangerous as the 2k top coat and need full respiratory mask and filters again thanks to you all keep the advice coming lol I'm in the UK by the way if anyone suggests where to get the paint.

it doesnt have isocyanates in like the "bad" stuff , but still use a suitable mask and gloves etc

id just brush it on thick vs the aerosol
