I'm currently enjoying this and liking it more every day, S211 E320 CDI 2004.

I had the slightly earlier one to the above - mine was 2003 (210) 648 six cylinder E320 CDi - I liked mine too (seven seater)


Apart from endless brake light pedal switches - they would fail and you could not get it in to gear (kept spare pedal switch in boot).


It was quite a reliable car I serviced it - tyres/battery. A couple of brake pipes, one injector seal and the glowplug relay failed.


I got rid of it becasue it was looking so rough - scabby rust everwhere. Where yours looks good shiney and new - no rust round the wheel arches.

Best Merc I have every owned was the W124 below - E300D - 1989 603 engine non turbo - starship mileage at 539000miles.

Tractor with a trailer hit it - while it was parked up in front of my house. JCB fast track managed to hit it - dragged the two ton lump up the road. Carnage... Plus insurers paid nothing much out for it - because of the high mileage. Car would be a classic now.

I bought it 2 years as a stop gap when my Volvo v70 cambelt tensioner failed and I was due to get a company car which never happened.

£250 with a short mot. 2 years on and 42k miles its needed a set of brake pads and tyres. That's it. No warning lights on the dash. Worst mpg is 67mpg and best 74mpg. I tow my little trailer 50% of the time and I have even taken it off road with my 2 dogs when shooting. It gets totally abused and tax is £30 a year.

It must be the best car because I cannot think of anything to replace it. The best bit is my boss hates it. Stopped asking me to go and see customers and made a comment to someone about me parking it in the managers parking area.

Are you also having trouble getting a spare number plate?

My petrol 2.3 is my daily driver at the moment.
At some point I'll deal with the cosmetics.. £900 off ebay, bargain I thought.

My sisters going to be done with her 03 yaris in November, offered her 350 for it as a spare. Be a shame to get rid.

My best was a 1984 Saab 900 16V Turbo S I bought in 1991 with 70k miles on the clock. I ran the car for 7 years putting the mileage up to near 200k miles and all it needed was service items ( I did 6k oil changes) - still on original turbo, clutch etc.

Was really comfy with heated seats, great acceleration in it day, 0-60 7.5 s from memory and built like a tank.

It starts first time, every time as long as you keep up the maintenance, they are as reliable as any other rotting piece of junk from 1987 still on the road.....

The Honda Jazz is well regarded. A guy I know has had over 30 Volvo Amazons and reckons they are the greatest car ever made. You won’t change his mind.

Nope, see my previous comment it is a wonderful piece of British engineering and will out last most other vehicles that were produced in 1987

There's something immensely satisfying about a cheap to run car with no depreciation.
I bought an old vw bora 1.9td for £1400, treated it like junk, spent not a penny on it. It gave me 2 years of motoring at 55mpg average, and then I wrote it off on the way to see a BMW for sale... Got £1300 back from insurance after excess
Oh and it also towed my drift car around! Luckily I was never stopped, with 8 spare wheels and tools etc that towing weight was wayyy over

I like what I drive now - a jag XF S. Comfy, fast, best sound system I've ever experienced, but it's missing "something".

Moggy Minor pick up, it was looked after mechanically and it even came with that bent handle for when the starter motor failed.

It carried everything from engines and gearboxes to lorry axles, if they flywheel was turning it moved, fast NO, pretty NO, but it had leather seats and did what I wanted it to.

Sold it when Moggy pick ups became rare and got a fortune for it as it was original and its still on the road today.

First vehicle I drove after passing my test , it was running cross ply tyres which never seemed to last long especially on the rear for some reason? Could be because of excessive oversteer when the power was on?
