Wifi problem

For some strange reason I can't connect to my home wifi from my PC anymore.
All was fine on Monday then we went away for a few days. The router was left on, the PC shut down but not turned off at the wall.
Our phones connect to it fine, as does my ipad, the Echo is also still connected fine.
It should simply connect automatically, as it's always done but when I try and connect I get "verifying and connecting" followed by "unable to connect to this network".
In the network connections control panel there's a red cross next to the adapter.
I've checked and double-checked all the settings and tried absolutely every solution I've come across but nothing works. At the moment I'm having to run a cable from the router to the PC.
I don't think it's a windows update issue as the last update was a while back.
Any ideas?

As an experiment I've just set my phone up as a wifi hotspot and the PC has connected to that with no problems so for some reason it's no longer seeing the router.

Have you tried the "repair" option? Is there a possible source of interference nearby? Some new gadget or gizmo, perhaps? Has something altered the signal path from router to PC?

I can pick up a printer which isn't mine and it's either the neighbour but one or next door the other side, which is separated by an alleyway, so the network card seems to be working fine.

Have you deleted the network connection within windows and made a new one?

Yes, I've rebooted the router twice and completely reset all the network settings on the PC including uninstalling and reinstalling the card with fresh drivers.

Are you using windows built-in wireless connection software or third party? I once had a wifi card that came bundled with some kind of gui called Radius or something and it was sometimes very flaky.

No, it can see it but refuses to connect to it. Password is fine, I've even renamed the connection and started over but no joy.

Windows, it's been fine until I shut the PC down on Monday.

Good few years since I last used Windows as such, but I found that uninstalling the driver, rebooting, then reinstalling sometimes helped.

Plug a cable in

A cable is your best and always your fastest connection, I never use wifi if I can avoid it, wire it up and forget you ever had a problem!

not sure you have done this shut both down

both the pc and wifi unit leave off for a minute then wifi first then pc

try to connect then

wifi unit can be refreshed from reading your pc wifi card is working just the modem refusing to connect it

other alternative change your bandwidth in modem settings

Try changing WiFi from 2.4ghz to 5 GHz or vice versa?

Delete it from your list, power down computer.
Re boot.
Go to WiFi settings and search for it again.
Click auto connect, pass word etc.

Go to, say BBC weather.

Log off. try again, should cure it.

If Not I know ere you live and I have a BFH.
That will fix it.

if you're a bt customer with a smart hub or a smart hub 2 go in to the router home page and turn off smart setup.
