Don't skimp with tyres when it comes to caravans. Change them at 5 years old recommended, don't use after 7 years old. Blow out on a motorway causes many caravans to become uncontrollable and flip over with expected results, you hear it nearly every day on traffic reports during the summer months. Bad end to a holiday.
I change mine at 4 years old........i have had 2 punctures over the years....one was a slow one but the other was a major blow out on the M6......no damage and no great drama but it makes you aware that plenty of tread doesnt mean the tyre is good......I had actually removed the wheels and taken them to be replaced only to allow myself to be convinced that they were ok....by the tyre fitters

Tow it to the west coast of France, nice little site on the beach, sitting outside in the evening sunshine with a glass of your favourite tipple, you'll fall in love with it again.

We only use ours during the summer. We use holiday cottages the rest of the year but summertime is expensive and busy. I like caravanning but getting there and back is becoming more and more difficult as I age.

Many years ago, I was pretty skint and needed a couple of new tyres for my Capri. Stupidly I figured that a decent brand of used tyre would be better than a new remould. A week or so after fitting, I was walking towards my car which was parked on a very steep hill outside work. I thought something was stuck to the inside tyre wall on the back wheel. I got on my knees to take a closer look and I was horrified to discover a fist sized bubble sticking out of the inner side wall. Being a Capri, I tended to drive it with two feet on the accelerator . It dawned on me how lucky I was to spot the damage. I hadn't hit any kerbs or anything like that, so I knew I hadn't damaged it. I went back to the used tyre depot and not surprisingly they accepted no responsibility for such events and pointed to the sign at the back of the depot. I mentioned it to a knowledgeable friend and he said that the tyres tended to be imported from Germany where the tread depth regulations was much more stringent than the UK. But many of them were from accident damaged cars too many from the UK as well. Its a reasonable guess that mine may have been one of those tyres. I think many people are unaware that caravan and trailer tyres are quite different in construction to plain car tyres and are more robust. I reckon it would be a fair bet there are many being dragged around with the wrong tyres fitted.
