shopping for a new car

i've had enough of the volvo:
Since I got the van, I've no need of an estate car, so i want something more comfortable, with a bit more oomph.
Budget of up to about 3K

So, what's the best car in that budget? And WHY is it a LEXUS LS430?

I really don't - I could be tempted by a land cruiser, but I want a "limo" - BMW 7 series would be a possibility, but I don't think I could get used to not indicating.
An old jaaaag would be too unreliable - and a merc too expensive to maintain.

rubbish 4.0 supercharged pretty much bombproof and go like stink to what more of limo do you want .

My son bought a mazda as his first car.
First job we did on it was to drill a 10mm hole in the chassis to release the gallon (no exxageration) of water which was sloshing around in it.
Put me off any mazda.

2004 MX5 with an MOT that I bought last year was the rustiest car underneath I have ever bought - and I have been buying and running Lancias and Alfas since 1988 .. . good job I only wanted the drivetrain out of it . . .

Speaking of which - Alfa 159 - comfortable, relaxing, and good looking from most angles . . . £3k would get you an excellent one. £4k bought me a 3.2ltr V6 4WD saloon version a few years ago.

Rover 75. Bit old now but still a classy "gentlemans carriage" and starting to appreciate in value. Probably outside your budget but they made a RWD version with a Mustang V8 engine

What about an Audi A8? Full aluminium body shell and panels with stainless steel subframes. Selection of engine sizes from 2.0 to 6.3 litre in petrol or diesel, fully loaded with good spares availability.
