The fact that there is so much heated debate means the science is far from settled.

Consensus is not science, it's politics.

We don't debate thermodynamics or gravity because the science is clear and reasonably irrefutable... until we learn something that changes our understanding.

60 years of changing weather patterns and we believe we understand a permanently changing, extremely dynamic, system... based on about 100 years of incomplete weather data and some quite frankly idiotic, arbitrary 'corrections' to suit the theory.

A little reminder climate is long term... A few hours ago... in climate terms... the UK was under ice and the north sea didn't exist, you could walk to Ireland or France.... the climate changed ... without our almighty assistance...

One of my big concerns is that a lot of these green schemes actually do far more harm than good.
Biofuels are causing massive destruction of rainforest as are electric cars.
And yet people think they are helping.

If humans are involved then ultimately it will be destructive, we are parasitic.

Look at the destruction palm oil causes and that is just so we can shovel chocolate down our gullets.

Biscuits too. I recently looked at my packet of digestives only to find that they use palm oil. McVities are going to lose out now since I won't buy them again, or their Rich Teas, which do not use it.

The use of Palm oil, and sugar has only just happened in the last few yrs. we made all these foods perfectly well before hand. Just not with so much profit.

United Biscuits who are behind McVities are committed to RSPO palm oil... what's wrong with that?

I understand why palm oil use is indirectly so destructive, but it's an incredibly efficient way to produce vegetable oil. As long as it's sustainably managed...

EDIT: I suppose this is partly why rapeseed prices have fallen off a cliff in this country... can't compete.

Yes but we MUST recycle to meet EU targets - funny how our local councils are still pushing for this.
The ONLY stuff that is fully recyclable is metal.
Even glass just gets crushed for sand blasting media. And to think of all the poor old dears who carefully rinse out their jam jars thinking they are going to be reused

Is that right? I've always been good with recycling glass as I thought it was remelted into brown glass...

I used to work for Pilkington and in my current job we do quite a lot of work for glass companies (Float glass, bottling plants etc) - and I don't know where you got this info from but there's loads of recycled glass used in all forms of glass manufacture, they even have their own name for it - Cullet.

take a good look into concrete blocks in building sites you will find they have glass in them

green, brown and clear can easily be seen in the mix of concrete blocks

Yeah I know it is at the bottle banks etc... but the cynic part of me assumed with youts etc mixing colours as they feel like, it was easier for recyclers to not bother and just make more brown glass

I'm sure there are plenty proper recycling schemes and companies.

Yes and we have caused it, or at least have changed the course of the destiny of the planet and the speed at which our ultimate demise will occur.

One cannot wreak so much change on an already inherently unstable system without dramatic and in this case cataclysmic consequences.

Way too many people with no natural predators that we can’t now fight off with the power to create worldwide change without any perception of the laws of unintended consequence have ensured our fate in the very near future.

The process is already underway. No stopping CO2 emissions or any dabbling like that will halt the now inevitable…… ever tried changing the direction of a supertanker with a piece of string?

most people in the “powerful” nations are not aware of the realities going on around them. You only have to watch the ridiculous weather warnings and the chaos that ensues from a windy day or a load of rain to realise people have become divorced from the realities of their true environment. That’s why they don’t see the changes which we, who have spent the last 60 years in agriculture do. It’s real, it’s happening.

I once read that “only a virus kills the host on which it depends”. That makes us the biggest virus out there.
