Thermal Underwear

As my grey-hair count is getting pretty high now, I’ve been taking an increasing interest in is the wonderful world "Thermal Underwear" . My first foray was a long sleeve vest made by the Dickies company. This is made out of bamboo (65%), tectyl (30%) and spandex (5%). It is warm, and the bamboo is supposed to wick up sweat, but I find it a bit clingy and think I’ll try some others out.

Any Recommendations?

Helly Hansen. Not the poncy stuff from outdoor shops, they do an industrial range which is cheap and good.

the trick is layers. Base layers, then a over layer (merino wool if you can get it), then your normal clothes, then outer gear. It’s all about the layers

Merino all the way. Won't use anything else when we are out on the hills lovely and toasty

I've loads of no name stuff, and thoroughly rate it in winter.

Wouldn't be without it.

But then half of it is probably the extra layers.

Bamboo!!!! Whatever you do don't jump into the giant panda enclosure at the zoo.

Don’t put thermal underwear in the tumble drier, my wife did with mine & it shrunk, it ended up half an inch thick but the right size for a toddler!

Yeah, watch out for that, most uncomfortable. And those ones without easy access to your todger, drive me mad, but keep me warm.

The best advice I can share for working in the cold is cyclist`s bib tights. I wear them under a pair of jeans and an old jumper, warm as toast. Forget all the fancy stuff. Just go to Decathlon store and buy a bog standard pair of their own brand bib tights. See store locator-scroll down below the map in the link, and you will see the list of cities where there is a Decathlon. Or, order online. As for keeping feet warm, just get a decent pair of 2nd hand walking boots from some place- e bay etc

They sell them near me. The guy who works there has one and says they great but he would. I don’t know anyone else with one. An m18 battery in my pocket would annoy me.

I had a pair of heated motorbike gloves a few years back. Fantastic things. Till there was a short or something and I got a burnt hand. Kind of lost faith after that and just have run of the mill kit now.
