Gas or gas-less mig

Hi All. Not even bought a welder yet, but would like to learn to weld stainless steel box section (probably 2mm) to the thickest of 5mm flat bar. This is to make clamps for bricklayers, hopefully to eventually sell at a later date, so quality and strength, need to be fairly good. I am thinking of buying something along the Clarke kind of budget, but can’t decide whether to go for gas-less or with gas. Advice would be greatly received! Thanks in advance.

Tig,not Mig,would be my advice,and thats miles away from a clarke budget,then again i could be proved wrong

It's not an either/or with mig, you just need to be able to reverse the polarity. That gives you the option of either.
As above, tig would be my choice especially if you are looking at a sellable product.

2 to 5 mm stainless, get an arc welder and stainless rods is thé cheapest and easiest road to go down surely.

Er, i find it very challenging, but very interesting. Deffo not easy.

Hi. Well, I guess it could be zinc plated? Only suggested stainless, as it would be open to the elements and prone to rust. If I were to opt for zinc plated, I would then have to ship everything out of house, to get it done; unless of course, this is the way to go?

Mild steel and powered coated,since when have brickies looked after anything

gas less stainless wire is very rare....and very expensive
