I made the oven out of a an old filing cabinet. Its not a bad size but I'd like to make a bigger one for larger projects now

Which kit did you buy? Any chance of a detailed build on the oven please?

How do the economics of doing it yourself compare to commercial powder coating? Had a few bits done on my resto project like these self fabricated seat replacement shells, which cost £80 to get coated.

The kit was around £150, the oven build was probably around £200. Powder is around £10 for 1/4lb depending on the finish. Not exactly cheap i guess but its mine to use whenever now though

Think, I would have to offer it as a service myself to justify the initial outlay

daughters boyfriend made one up and been doing some car wheels and makes a good job/ i made him a grit valve for his home made blasting pot and gave him the design. it works well no point in designing stuff yourself when someone can just give you the plans for nothing

Suddenly everyone around me have parts they want doing so there is definitely demand for it.
For me personally, I have a campervan, so have plenty of bits to do

Any chance of a copy of the plans.
I purchased a 400 quid wooden version some years ago and it was useless and never had much faith in sandblasting since.....

I'd be interested too i only have a small cabinet at the moment

theres a load of stuff and pictures on the forum of pot builds and exploded views of the grit valves for anyone making there own easy enough to make if you have a lathe and a welder . il take a picture of the cabinet and dust extraction using a woodchip extracta

Those look like good results, as with all these kind of things the big benefit is being able to do when you want even if that is 8 o'clock at night

I've been tempted many times, I've seen them doing coke bottles at the shows whch looks cool.

Devin Niemela on youtube does loads when working on Evos/Impreza and other cars. He does the wheels,brake calipers and loads of other bits in an old oven and gets excellent results. He has recently bought a new kit which seems to do a better job.

Most good powder cost places use a powder coat primer,top coat or paint then powder coat lacquer these days. I wonder if you can buy that primer easily and whether it would work at home.

How hot do you need the oven with the home hobby paint? normally its 220C with industrial ovens as those rubbers don't look burnt
