Swifty with a hypertherm 65.
Mach 4 which it runs on is useless
The CAM software that spits out your G Code is laggy, likes to crash, and I’m constantly getting bad code where it will cut one hole then stop for no reason.
The water table works good but the drain is in completely the wrong place.
Hypertherm cut quality isn’t leagues ahead anymore. Look at @Hood and his Jasic, the cut quality on that is better than the Hypertherm!
Hypertherm made in China but you’re paying American made prices.
Cut quality on 6mm isn’t as good as it should be. Issues with excessive taper.
Have a issue with the Y axis, which only shows up when cutting at 45 degrees. Saw tooth like finish in the part.
apart from that it’s great.
Sounds like you have a lot of issues there. Did you phone Swift-Cut for help?
I'd prefer Mach 4 as it's still supported and I have windows 10 on my laptop.
The water table is the main selling point for me at the moment, as I need to keep fumes and dust to a minimum. Where's the water drain? Hope it's not at the back.
I'm not too worried about the Hypertherm being made in China, everything is these days and there are some quality manufactures over there now.
Your saw tooth problem sounds worrying. Do you think it's a machine issue or G code issue?
I've got an xtreme, my reasons for going for it over the swifty were,
Price as when I looked the swifty was more expensive by time you bought the computer and such.
Back up as everyone I spoke to really raved about xtreme back up, I've only briefly needed to test this out though but so far no complaints with the service.
I liked the fact it came complete with the pc and software all loaded as if there's ever an issue it means there's no passing the buck by blaming the computer for cut issues.
The fact I can go from a 4 x 4 table to a 8 x 4 table in the future appealed as well.
Yeah, I was surprised at the price of the Swifty £7800 inc VAT and delivery. I think the Xtreme is £5700 plus £250 delivery plus Hypertherm £2600 is the best price I could find. So at £8550 it's quite a bit more. I assume they used to be cheaper. I could always go with the R-Tech cutter to save some money but I like the idea of Hypertherm's marking capabilities.
Rob's support does sounds good and I like the modularity of the Xtreme. They look easier to fix/modify/upgrade too and a dedicated PC would be handy.
Yes, that was a bit vague.
I was refering to the unsupported length of belt either side of the gantry or head depending on it's position on the table. As the gantry or head moves the belt length constantly varies either side.
The comparable Essco Ezicut uses a leadscrew but can't tell if its a ball screw, even if it is the diameter looks a bit small and could end up swinging like a skipping rope, cheap is cheap, there will always be a compramise somewhere. Xtreme uses rack and pinion but no gearbox/belt reduction, doesn't appear to effect cut quality though, I'm sure @doubleboost will confirm.
Is anyone here running a non pc based controller? I think with Mach3 you are stuck with Windows 7 which is pretty much obsolete. I think moving to Windows 10 means you have to use Mach 4, if you go the Mach route.
I think a belt drive will be fine over 4 feet. We use them on some of the axes on the SMT printing machines that we build where I work, due to their speed advantages. They're only 2 feet long though.
Very pleased with mine
Xtreme sponsors my you tube
I like things to be crystal clear
Any one wanting a look at a xtreme table in the north east would be made most welcome
Thanks, I'm down in Dorset, so it's a bit far. I've watched all your plasma videos and they were very useful. The tour of Xtreme was good, nice to see behind the scenes.
