Anyone regrown a finger nail?

Twatted my thumb 4 weeks ago, flesh has grown back nicely but point of impact was base of nail. Phoned the docs last week and sent some pics, says I have likely destroyed the nail nerve but it might come back? not a lot left holding it on but feels like nail not flesh underneath.

Anyone else had similar ?

I was quite attached to it surprising the things you use a thumb nail for until you can't

Yeah mine looked just like that but tonnes of dried blood underneath. Nail went brittle and crumbled away, new nail eventually grew through.

Yes, several times. Thumbnail definitely so, just like that with a misplaced club hammer. Regrew fine.

I had a big toenail removed in March. Its disappointingly like a toenail under the toenail, and even when removed on purpose they come back sometimes.

Yes, done it with fingers and toes, it will grow back, just be gentle with it, while it is growing hard.

Yeah, squashed one of mine ages ago. Weird how they sort of grow back, kind of a soft fibrous patch. Not a nail, more like hard skin almost. Just kept filing it and cutting back to shape it should be.
Eventually back properly, but took about a year or more.

I had 2 on one thumb for a while....old one recovered as new one grew over it.....they were seperate.......one day I realised they had either become one or one had disappeared.

Also, if it is loose or flapping, wrap it up with some tape or a plaster. If it gets caught and ripped it is more agony..

That will grow back, ive done few over the years, worst one was when I put my thumb in the flypress and had to have it surgically repaired, its still numb 5 years on but the nail is perfectly normal looking. Just be patient,

I managed to smash one of mine quite badly, left it for four days. I was refining it but pressure was building under the bed and I couldn't get to it.
Went to the local A&E who sent me on to the local trauma hospital Broomfield in Chelmsford (it's a trauma hospital as it's near stanstead)
They had to take it off under local and then sew it back on, thankfully it didn't kill the nailbed and it's returned to normal.

I've managed to cut two fingernails off from my left hand using a knife while chopping vegetables, you soon learn to tuck the ends of your fingers under. Painful when it happened but they have grown back fine.

Squashed flat undderneath a heavy loaded pallet, the pressure the following day was intense, not helped by niece on the swing misjudging my thumb for the rope
Quick trip to A+E and the nurse warmed a paperclip over a bunsen burner and pierce through the base of the nail, instant pain and relief, grew back fine

I always drill / burn a hole in a damaged nail to relive the pressure .
As it grows I fill in the hole with super glue
Nothing worse than a partially attached finger nail.
It gets caught on clothing etc

You're not wrong! The base edges are catching on all sorts, mainly clothes and towels, I'm putting a strip of material plaster across the base to avoid snagging but its a pig to take off.

Yeah, I severely smashed my left thumb and it took a long time to heal, but the nail fully came back. I wore a padded folded aluminium finger cap taped around the base of my thumb, which was an annoyance, but reminded me not to forget I was injured and put my hand in harms way.

Grows back from the root, not up from the base iyswim. Once the dead nail departs, the skin might be a little more firm than regular skin but it's not a nail. Worst part will be the ragged edge of whatever is left. That will edge its way forwards like a glacier only a fair bit slower. You'll be watching that slowly cover your embarrassment for a few months yet.

Once we have a fully developed A.I. up and running, we'll probably be able to regrow complete organs with modified DNA. Just so long as that A.I. is happy to let us know. I hope someone is working on how to keep an A.I. happy, wouldn't want to develop an unhappy all knowing being. I just hope it doesn't end up being Chinese...

Anyway, err, thumbs. Dead handy aren't they? Good shot by the way, did you have that moment just before the pain really kicks in when you thought, "ooh, that's not so bad, could have been worse..."
