Alien table - wow!!

I wish I could say I made this, but I cheated and bought it!! It is made from scrap bike and car parts (and at least 50 17mm spanners!!)

I would like to try and do my own version...anyone got an idea what the 'thighs' are made from...they look like car gearbox parts to me but could be off anything??

I like that too, and I particularly like detail in most things. I cannot answer your question . However, it is only our imagination that is the limiting element for ideas.

Here are a couple of steam engine mosaics (and like you I bought them as I found them interesting). They are made from clock & watch parts, lock bits, old tin cans, old coins, keys, louder speaker cones, contact breaker points, and various brass & copper items etc. (See pics)

Regarding the use of internal engine parts, does anyone know how well this type of steel would weld? I may have a go at something like that?

I got the last two of these in a deal from a guy off EBAY...with the carriage to Spain they now owe me £400 each but I would think they are worth double as the quality is mind boggling. They originate in Thailand..........

I'm hoping to sell one and keep the other for mysef ....and try and make one :-))

that table is awsome, might have a bash at something like that meself, as for the thighs, the main meet of it looks like old type air vent that i have seen before mated to a drive shaft of some type. do you have any more Pics??

What is the seller`s user name on ebay-maybe he has other interesting items for sale?

How is the glass table top secured to the base-is it just resing on it with the weight of the glass?

Popeye...no it's all one heavy piece of finely engineered steel. Looks to me like it's off maybe an auto transmission...looking inside (difficult) are lots of little teeth...it's a complex bit of 'thigh'!!

Re the glass....the glass has three machined and highly polished alloy pieces set into it..these have an internal thread and bolts go in from below to secure it....very well made piece of kit.

The Ebay guy sold old computer parts...I think these were a one off he got from 'somewhere'. You can get them from Thailand but they are expensive and the shipping cost is horrendous unless you buy a container load!!

"I spy with my japs eye" a big end cap, timing chain and timing chain drive sprockets probably a complete gearbox,a couple of driveshafts, chain link and flexy heater/exhaust hose oh and some re-bar.

I would imagine the hardest part would be starting it's a bit like building a Stonewall no one can tell you we are all the bits go a little trial and error and you'd be surprised how things start to fall into place

The thighs are drive shafts with the cv's removed (the bit that the hub then the front wheel attaches too with the black rubber boot thingy bob wrapped around it with stainless steel ties behind the wheel, the big black rubber round things at the front of the car on a front wheel drive car or on the rear on a rear wheel drive.)
