Cistern pipe - made of gold?

While totally rebuilding our bathroom with the help of @Jacktegla I am fitting an old toilet with high cistern - in keeping with the age and style of house.

The pipe that came with it is a bit tarnished - brass plate.

Thought I would buy one. Big mistake. Cheapest I can find is just over £100 for 1500mm of 38mm pipe.

If I paid that, I think I would be banned from this forum!

Bit of brasso on the old one, possibly using something a bit more abrasive to begin with depending how bad it is.

Failing that splash out £3.36 for a new pipe.

One of the high level cistern makers boasted/advertised that it could flush away four eating apples in one flush.

Our one was called 'Volcania'

Even with a full cistern of water our new close coupled toilet often needs a simultaneous bucket of water to flush properly.

Would have been cheaper and arguably better to have just gone with a new one

dont know what your moaning about you still got a floor it not a problem untill you are using steping stones carfully balanced across the joists

Can you get say an aluminium pipe and have it annodised to match? Last time I was at Badger in Birmingham dropping off half a tonne of parts for annodising there was a chap picking up some aluminium pieces they'd annodised to match the original gold and brass parts for a bathroom. Until you picked them up you really couldn't tell the difference.
