Today I did some angle grinding... while tired.

I'm going to make a welded frame this weekend and wanted to cut the material up before the rain comes in tomorrow as I tend to do angle grinding outside. I decided to mitre the top and bottom rectangles of the frames as it's good practice cutting mitres and looks tidy.

Got all 12 bits cut up, then looked at what I'd done. Here are four of them. One of these is not like the others:

I don't have any spare stock, so here it is modified and ready for gluing back together:

I also realised that I hadn't shortened the measurements of the uprights to account for the thickness of the top and bottom frame, so I could have made the frames a little bigger had I been engaging my brain. I might take advantage of it and make the uprights sit outboard of the top and bottom frames and increase the space inside (at the expense of looking tidy) or I might just shorten them. That's a decision for sometime when I'm not feeling so tired.

Lock down also means the good shops are closed.



I got this motley collection of old pine floor boards.

So by hand, not one power tool.

I cut the timber down, shaped it.




The oval was cut with this old Bow saw.



First time I have used it in anger since I got it.

Certainly is a lost art. But something I plan to use again.

But, when sealing the rectangle a "Shake" started to develop. Meaning a new plan was required.



So I cut it out.
I did try to trim and glue, but it was not having any of it.



Cut out the shake, using a bit of off cut from the timber a replacement was glued and using biscuits jointed.



The stain is taking.



Fitted and waiting to go to it's new home.

Yes it was.
I like power tools, don't get me wrong.
As you say something nice about using good quality hand tools to make something.

Now given the choice between ripping down a 8x4 board by hand or power tool.

So back to April 2018 I knew a retired metalworker .
He asked me if I could give a look to an engine driven welder that was sitting for 20 years because he was intended to sell it .
So I went there , checked everything ,seeked for insulation faults.
Etc etc etc
Started and used it .
I've ended up buying it a month later ,he gave me an electric metal shear with the engine driven.
Later on the way he became a customer of mine and he also asked me to sell his tools .
Unfortunately today I have been informed about his death.
So today I've lost a customer and a friend .

It is very sad when that happens afterwords you think back and see that your friend had been planning things that you did not know about and wonder if you had missed something.
A good friend of mine, a semi retired sports photographer started selling up his cameras and lenses at very low prices, bought a MX5 and toured the UK.
Within a year he had a heart attack on his mothers front drive, he was dead before she had time to open the front door.
Alarm bells start to ring when ever I see someone here selling up, there have been a couple of PM conversations revolving around are you OK, is there anything you need to or want to talk about with a couple of individual members here, fortunately they are both still with up even if posting less often or on non engineering topics.

Covid killed him .
I think that happened this way ,he had to go to the hospital for some reason (maybe because his heart or diabetes or even for her daughter because she has cancer)
And he got covid.
That's probably happened two weeks ago , I've had a phone call with him a week prior he die .
He seemed to me to be very concerned about something.
I should have been working on his chainsaw and grass trimmer ,he said me that we should have met after waters chill out (I don't really know how translate his words but I hope you are able to understand)
I don't know if I'm fine.
I usually cry when I lose someone but I didn't yet and I feel little bit empty , I'm just sorry because I think that is sad to die cause covid after a long time struggling with other pathologies that from our today's knowledge are way worst than this damned virus .
Probably even a banal cold could have killed him in his health conditions.
I'm start thinking about all this bad that's happening in the world and that's the 5th time covid is touching me .
Firstly as touched everyone in the world cause to the lockdown and social distance
Secondly because if I need to go to the hospital because my kidneys I can't.
Third because my uncles had it and survived.
Forth because my family had contacts with people who had it and knowing to be positive didn't care and didn't respect rules about PPE and quarantine.
And now a friend killed by this awful virus .
I'm getting every day more frustrated and disappointed about things are going on.

The Acetal arrived this afternoon so clamped it into the Chiron.

After a while I had this.

Turned it around and repeated.

Still waiting on the correct dome head screws but fitted the switches with a few cap screws just to make sure all was ok.

From the side showing the switches and relays are now at the same height.

I should have the stainless on Monday so can get the front panel done next week.
