...and a very sensible decision to take it on.
Much too good to scrap, that's a nice find.
Given how good the rear tyres are I'd get a photo up of the damage, for off road work you might be able to put a big gaiter in in as they look to be good and worth saving.
Bit puzzled by the lack of PTO, but I have not looked very close yet. That's cool looking! But unfortunately, with no pto or hydraulics, a bit limited in terms of usefulness.
If that paint is original, think I'd be wary of repainting. Could wax it as it is to preserve.
Did think about that, but I had a little Japanese tracter about 35yrs ago, that was 10hp and all the shafts were across the unit. Crank reductions etc and chain to the axle, with another chain to the rotavator. Worked fine along with a single blade plough that switched over (two blades, of course but only one in use)Heh, looks likee the engine man on the design team wasn't given enough weight, lot of tractor for very little engine.
A pto would be useful, has it enough power to turn one?
Will do, but the cut is about 8/10cm long. I found a fresh tyre on the web for €70, so makes fixing an iffy one less attractive.
I had a good look around the rear, now it is out of the clag, but no sign of a PTO. Possibly it might be an option as a bolt on replacement unit, as you suggested. There are lots of levers and other controls and bits around the back.Would that fitting with the spring at the rear unbolt - it's exactly where you'd expect a PTO to emerge, might be worth a look when you get round to starting in on her?
I'm also intrigued to know what's lurking in the tool box?
Bit of a gap here, but the Energic has been in the w/shop since lockdown started, but not a lot done as the queue is long.
But, made the new fan blades and fitted them. The bearing housing, within the mounting and held by that pinch bolt, is eccentric and one turns it to tension the belt, neat.

The magneto is below the fan and next to the crank pulley. Has an impulse system, so wacks out a fat spark at low speed. Cleaned the plug and refitted, new oil and some clean fuel in a temp tank and pulled her over a few times. Good compression, so went for it. Fired and ran second pull!
Now, the exhaust is cast iron and the outer section has lost half the exit grill and the remaining bit is bust.

I am going to fit a round SS plate over the hole with slots and a skirt to cover the round end, held by a bolt in the centre, as was the original grill. Not very effective in noise reduction..
Also found out what some of the levers do. The big one on the left gives three gears, the one on the right N-R-N-F. Still no idea what the smaller levers on the right do, but the one just forward of the seat on the left, is a diff lock.
Nuff for now.

For those of little faith (or non at all...very 'all inclusive' here) I pulled her out a bit and here are a few photos:

The sheet metal just needs a sand and paint, no dings. One rear tyre to change as badly cut and one of the front ones looks like it came off a 2CV. And... find out wot all the levers do..
