Don't quote me on this, But I'm sure Milwaukee & Ryobi are related. But I could be wrong

Which grinder did you order . Iv makita years and wouldn’t change love my makita stuff .
I went for the variable speed one - figured it might be useful for odd bits of sanding and suchlike. I haven't adjusted the speed yet, but I have heard it's one of those things that you never knew you needed and then you wonder how you coped without out it. Time will tell whether that's true.
I found a use for the speed control on my grinder when I realised I could reduce the speed when using flap discs.
seems to extend life with same performance I guess because the heat it’s reduced.
Was the grinder the DGA463z like this one?

I picked up my old Ryobi cordless drill yesterday, even without the chuck and battery it's a hefty lump and feels better then the newer one. At the time it was new on the market none of the more expensive drills could match the top speed 0-370/750/2200 RPM, just a shame the speed controller is no longer available as I would still be using it.
@Dr.Al I looked at the current range of Ryobi drills and most have the plastic chuck, only one I could see has a full metal chuck. If you are looking at Makita be careful of the kit bundles, my stepson wanted a Makita saw and I had seen a kit available in Costco so I did a comparison of the saw he wanted and the one in the kit. The kit saw had less features than the one he was looking at and was very basic despite looking identical, a budget version for retail kits.
I think I have a ryobi 3 speed drill in a box in the shed, is this the same speed control as yours?

I am very sure I have one, if I can find it you can have it if you still need it.
I would be interested it it works, I liked the drill.
Thanks for that. I did fit one and from memory it went Phut almost immediately, I seem to remember that under warranty Ryobi always replaced the motor and controller as a set, I will have to check with a friend of mine about it.
I still have a smaller newer ryobiLooks the same, is it lonely in that case for a reason?
I still have a smaller newer ryobi
I will test it tomorrow and if you want it you can arrange collection.
