According to their website they fitted the boom yesterday. Today they went for a test lift and (it looks like) the hook has failed.

it wasn't lifting anything the jib fell to the right back over the hook is on the left . wunder if they left the pins out underneath and it tipped over backwards when raised up

How does this even happen today? With the computer drawing programs and simulations I would have thought that every component would be scrutinised.

The boom did collapse as well you are right. The chinese built ships are utter useless the will just fall apart if you look at them the wrong way these days back in the beginning they werent quite as bad and mainly had just structural problems as they didnt have the machinery too make the machinery so it was bought in from where ever was best at making it. My company got some ships made there recently all the publicity pics for them are of the second one in the class as the first left the yard on speed trials and the propeller fell off and oversped the main engine wrecking it. My company supposedly has a specilist engineer who just watches propellors being fitted in yards during dry docks and new buildings.

The main hook block failed at around 2000t, whilst load testing. It's a 5000t crane. Happened yesterday.

that explains the boom going backwards if it had that load on and went twang I bet the recoil was massive

Isn't it funny how the Victorians built things that would last hundreds of years with no computers or health and safety

It beggars belief how a simple error can destroy millions of quid in a second.

Rather worrying that recoil can do that.
OK the hook shouldn't have failed but what about slings and wire strops etc? Bad rigging shouldn't be able to destroy a crane of that size. With the wide variety of loads that thing is expected to lift you can't expect it to go right every single time. Not enough redundancy in the structure.
