Magnets.. What have you?

I think I need a decent set of magnets for holding panels, can anyone recommend what they recommend?
As you can see, my current magnets are a tad heavy and rarely stay in place on thin metal.

If you made that repair panel then well done as it looks great..as for magnets i just own what you have there

Thank you, it was by no means an easy feat as it was originally a piece of the door skin but with a bit more fettling I can hopefully get it fitted. I would have preferred to joggle it than butt weld.

Joggle is easier, it's what I do. A lap joint is easier still, but both these are frowned on since the double thickness creates a water trap.
Rather than magnets to hold butt joints, have you considered Intergrips :

Keep the magnets well away from the arc as it pulls it all over the place. HDD magnets as @eLuSiVeMiTe says are mega strong and much smaller, get a few tacks on and remove the magnets.

I have seen these, maybe worth a go plus could be used as an earth point. Its just a shame they all come from China and will take years to get here

Nice repair panel, shame the civics always rot out there though.

As for magnets homebase did a nice smaller version of those triangle magnets. They are about 2inches long and came in a pack of 4.
Worked really well for panels but not so much for the bigger pieces.

Cant see them anymore in homebase website but it was a clearance thing. But here is a link to the size.

I always try the odd bins in aldi and lidl as they normally come up with some goodies. I need some with out paying the Eastwood prices.
They do indeed, everyone I have had apart from my EK9 has gone here

Intergrips are fine if you can get to the other side to remove the pin

I had my eye on those hold zinc adjustable magnets, middle of June delivery

I will keep an eye out for old hard drives and speakers at work. As I'm doing sills the intergrips may not be practical.

Old speakers out of scrap cars are always a decent source if big powerful magnets also.

The big angle magnets usually have a round ferrite magnet like those used in speakers and break easily if dropped and lose some of their magnetism. The neodymium magnets as used in HDD are unbelievably strong in comparison especially for their size, you can buy them in all shapes and sizes on EBay. I have a pair of these small Magswitch and they are really useful but were £70 the pair.

yeah they hurt if you catch a little bit of skin between magnet and metal

i have some smaller set about 3" on 45 degree angle so are really small to use when needed
