Just blew up my milwake charger.

It went pop after I turned it off. Should have left it on. Any way i presume the grinding dust arced the mofset chip and blew it's legs off. Is it worth soldering in a new chip. Does any one know what chip it is or have one. I may have something similar. Or should i just bin it.

It didn't have much dust in there but yes I brushed it off to inspect the dammage. I guess I should move my chargers somewhere else.

If you can get the part number off it by carefully removing the heat sync you should be able to get one online fairly cheap, about a quid usually!

its got to be worth trying to find/fit another chip , 35 sovs saved is equivalent to at least 60 earned by the time you paid tax etc etc , so worthwhile giving it a go , whats the worst that can happen ? loose an hour or two..good luck

i have a spare m12 only charger here you can have for £15 + p&p
I'm over-run with the things! I keep buying second hand M/W stuff, and they always seem to come with a charger and a "free" m18 drill (but no batteries).

I picked up pretty cheap, A combined 12v and 18v Milwaukee rapid charger on ebay, May be worth looking,

pop the screw out, take the cover off and check the numbers on the chip... as above they're probably a quid online

I blew up my Wickes charger a week or two ago, by turning it on with a battery already in it. Looking on the back it says not to do that.

I will take another look later I have a couple of other chargers that do the m12 and m18 batteries anyway.

the warranty is only a year on the chargers! The problem is the vents allow all the dust into the charger, not like my makita chargers they dont have these vents all over the place

Nah - although you did just remind me that I've actually had a charger die as well, still got it but not got around to investigating why. Had a new one shipped out under warranty and also acquired a second one.

Milwaukee are the power tool equivalent of VW, massively over rated but for some strange reason people love them. See loads on site dead after 8 or 9 months
