We get it all the time, machining Stainless that we buy from Shackletons in Sheffield. You can always tell when the stock is from China. I've seen chunks of all sorts in the castings.

the whole Chinese thing really annoys me, i bought a cable tracer early last week the options where uk brand £360 or Chinese version of the exact same tool even the manuals are the same £160

drives me nuts this economy why buy from a rebadged big UK brand

on a positive note i bought a new tester for work made in the uk probably just assembled and it was not an expensive test meter and functions really well, which make the point that we can do it !

what i will say is the tracer is also brilliant

I got an off cut of 40mm mild steel plate off a place that builds communication towers, I was drilling through it and hit a spot where the bit just flew through about 10mm of it and it spewed out a fine black dust like coal dust

mastech ms6818 will do live and dead tracing, using it in anger tomorrow tracing load of swa need to find the buried connection its about 0.5m deep and a big garden, i'll just use the sheath and and the supplied earth rod trialled it at home today was brilliant

specs claim 2.5m in soil


i pray thats my neutral fault, then to put in a submain take the garage, 3x sheds of an unfused spur on a ring. bloody people!

When I worked for a company that made machinery to manufacture car heat exchangers, towards the end they started to buy fabrications from China. When drilling these you would never know whether you would hit a old lathe tool or a bed frame, it could be cheese or bell metal, there didn’t seem to be any grading involved in the manufacturing process of the steel what so ever.

They can make excellent steel.
Its almost funny, a peaceful conspiracy to destroy the west by de industrialising us, not by superior products but schmoo.
All powered by corporate greed and stupidity, protected by the the politically correct ideal of globalisation.
My idea of good globalisation is dragging people out of poverty not taking advantage of low wages and expectations

The thing with the Chinese is they can copy anything, but you have to tell them what you want the copy to be. Do you want it to look the same but be as cheep as possible or do you want a half decent knock off or an identical replica of the original.

I had to drill out some broken wheel studs in a hub. The studs were of dubious origin. When I was drilling into them to get the extractor in, The drill was hitting very hard bits as hard as a tap and incredibly soft material almost like lead. This was the reason the studs had sheared and the wheel had fallen off.

They really are excellent at copying...

I used to get my suits made out there when I was visiting my mate....just take them a suit that you like the fit of and 3 days later you could have 5 made in whatever custom material you liked with custom linings....the works.

I once had one made for someone back home...took measurements with me...after an hour it was clear they couldn't handle it! We compromised on "he's a bit shorter and a bit fatter than me" ....and it was a perfect fit but was blind luck!
