Tried to watch this on channel 5 tonight and gave up. It was all chuff chuff chuff clack clack clack. I've done that trip and it was brill. But tonight everything was in kilometres, distance, height of mountains etc and very little narrative. ZZZzzz

They didn't work out that the view out the side windows is better than the view down the line...
The views from up the hill are a 100 times better also

I cannot fault the views etc they're great and always will be it's just the way it was presented. Every thing on there was built in feet and inches. I'm lucky conversion is no problem but why not leave things the way were on heritage railways etc. Last time I was in Mallaig Fish and chips was in Pound shillings and pence Norm

Are you saying that it's necessary to speed to have fun on a motorcycle? Surely one only goes up there for the scenery and the peace and quiet. And the haggis, neeps and tatties, obviously. And the hotels with their largely East European staffing... though we did find one where the entire workforce was Spanish

I ride with a bunch of middle-aged IT types... whenever I've suggested camping (anywhere) I get shot down.
Mind you after some of the 500-mile days we've had in Europe, the last thing you want after uncurling yourself from a bike is to start putting a tent up in the dark, in full leathers and then stripping wet kit off...

No matter how much of Bonny Scotlands scenery you see on the goggle box, it will never make up for the real thing.

I have great memories of a couple of weeks spent hooning around there, with tent, on a 250 kawasaki tripple. Twas many years ago.

I myself prefer the hotel option too, these days, but thats an age thing.

From what I hear dodging German camper vans is quite hard work during the summer these days, so hooning about isnt so easy

You cant beat setting camp after a long day in the saddle. Though I must admit its not getting any easier.
Planning next yrs travels at the mo. Winding our way via Arron, Mull, Skye, Lewis, Orkneys, to Shetland.

The popularity of the North Coast 500 route has made touring that part of the world a lot less fun than it used to be. We'll be up there in July, it's already planned as is our annual Euro-jaunt in late May. Off to the Alps again (if the Frenchies let us in!), this year's fleet for both trips will include a new SuperDuke, an old SuperDuke, a Crossrunner, GS1200 Adventure, Aprilia Futura, MT-09, F800S, Z1000SX, Tiger 1200, Multistrada Pike's Peak... and me, blocking the road with the Pan Euro
