Shot, sand blasting

Hi , just a quick question , what would be the approximate cost of blasting 5 land rover steel rims,ball park figure , need an idea before buying some wheels,

Not recent, But could be potentially more! 5 wheels will be a time consuming process tbh. Are you planning on having them powdercoated?

No , primed and painted by me , heard powder coat no suited to wheels and pricy esp if the colour is not stock

I recently had six Disco 1 Steel wheels blasted, primed and painted wheel silver (proper wet paint not powder coat)
for £216 (with a receipt!)

My local place charges £25-£30 per wheel for blasting & powdercoating, depending on the complexity of the wheel.

I would look for someone to refurb them for you, As @OJCar mentioned the price between blasting & complete refurb isn't a massive difference. Not worth you getting your hands dirty

It"s not long of a job for a commercial sandblasting firm....even if it has a lot of extra paint....

Man, things have got expensive whilst I"Ve been away....

Basic 16inch steel rims blasted tires off would be 15 pounds each here so 75 for the 5

Appreciate the advice fellas, I'm an oap so the pennies count, blasting to me removes the donkey work, painting inside and the back of the rims can be by brush, the show side rattle can spray, the project is a little complex but the overall aim is to use a 65 aspect ratio tyre on my 4 x 2 landy, the previous owner has fitted a hi ratio transfer gear set which gives 31.8 % higher ratio, a smaller tyre will drop it by 5 % this gives it just that bit back on the hills,

Got a price yesterday , 50 quid per wheel plus vat for blast and prime, local to me in Liskeard,
I have just come round, wife nearly phoned the doc, said I went really pale and shaky,
add that to the wheel price I might as well have bought new ! ,
next question best paint stripper , grinder flappy wheels etc please,

Wire wheel, pressure wash then citric acid bath.

Shop around.
Cash in hand. And haggle.
Wheels are quick to do.
It's things like gates and railings that take forever.

When I was pricing up blasting the steel work of the barn that I converted into a workshop I ended up buying a full size Hodge Clemco set having been shocked by the price, reasoning that I could sell it later.

. . . I never did sell it though as it's too useful

Best paint stripper these days IMHO is Starchem Synstrip - but do use PPE!

Well collected wheels today, way better than I thought so it's just wire brush , rub down prep wiyh a bit of rust kill and fill , the backs wire brush and smoothrite, fronts spray in deep bronze green , ,

The ,mention of citric acid has piqued my interest , I have a 65 l plastic drum , the wheels will fit in if I cut the narrow part off , assuming 30 litres of solution how much citric acid should I buy to make an efficient removal of the rust from the wheels please ( 1 at a time )

I got a quote of £450 to blast and power cost 5 16" Surf wheels!
I'd happily pay £50 a wheel but not £90!

Hi All , have been in contact with a firm , price depends on time taken , so how long would it take to blast a landy wheel front and back only ....... inside rims are like new,
