Well I’m flummoxed. I can get all gears, no sign of wear or damage. Must be the clutch

I’ve always used Putoline oil, carried out a major service 1k back. Changed oil to Motul. Within 500mile I it was very hard down the box, neutral none existent. Changed to Shell.

Bit late now but just wondered why you ended up at Shell instead of Putoline which had given no issues ?

The oil shouldn't make any difference as long as it's the right grade.
The clutch could have a slight drag causing the gear dogs to bind a bit. Is it hydraulic on those Triumphs?

I’d run out of Putoline, I know A1 Triumph in york use Motul.

Clutch is cable

Selector looks fine.

I’ll build it back up and see what happens

Could be. You can’t see the pegs, as the drum is in the way. But there is no wear on the drum you would expect to see if the pegs were worn, damaged

Wouldn't that just cause it to jump out of gear not stop it from going in ?

Bent selector Fork maybe, It doesn't take much, A couple of false neutrals and some good firm pedal pressure to engage the gear resulting in a bent selector.

As in comes out the side. The only bike I’ve had like that was a Neval 125 late77s.

You can take the drum and dogs out via removal of sump

Yeah cassette boxes can be removed completely from the side to be fixed, I think most modern sports bikes have them. I had an old Kawasaki KR1S with a knackered 3rd or 4th gear and was ready to strip it all down only to discover it was a cassette box!
Result.

might have bent the fork with it jumping out or broken the pin on it that engages with the groove in the drum
