Snapped these pics of the display in one of the windows of the local butchers, I have no idea either before anyone asks. They've been there for a while. I'll bet some here will remember some of the display. Excuse the reflections in some of the pics, I did my best without a polarising filter for the phone.

Yes I either have, or have had nearly everything in the display. Even had to make a "tin jug" identical to the one laid on it's side, as part of my apprentice training.

Bloody hell, our kids have watched Pheasant, Partridge and Rabbit being gutted and breasted after being shot.

They’ve also seen me lug a Roe out of the pickup and hang it, before watching me joint it up.

Snowflakes are parents creations, skills are being lost and soon all we will do is import everything and eat carrots

Well although my policy is each to their own, I certainly find the sight of murdered and dismembered animals greatly distressing. However I respect the beliefs of the majority and so avoid rather than protest it.

The other school of thought though is that if kids do get to understand how meat gets to the table, the vegetarian revolution may well gather pace. The shopper in the supermarket is totally disconnected from the realities of their Sunday roast.

I call that sanitisation of the facts. It's like the twee word "culling" when what they actually mean (but will not admit to) is mass murder of the defenceless. You call it what you wish and I will do the same. We shouldn't fall out about it.

I liked both of the two posts above because I didn't want Cheb to think I was taking sides. But 'We shouldn't fall out about it' is a very good reply.

I think it's one of the things that makes this such a great forum. Opinions can be shared and, whilst not necessarily agreed with, can be accepted.

I like nostalgia, I see it all around me and enjoy using and working with things which were made proper and to last, in a time before plastic.

I had a nostalgic moment a couple of months back when I discovered an American candy shop in the town of Neath here in South Wales. Saw an item from my childhood days which brought a big smile to my face.

I recalled these jaw breakers from 60+ years ago, and had to try one; it tasted just like I remember, so I bought a bucket full.

Hot cinnamon flavoured, and they still last about a half hour. As a penny candy back then, we kids considered them good value for our effort in finding an redeeming the deposits from old bottles.

I wasn’t going to engage you but this boils my p***. Do you have the first idea why animals such as deer are culled? Would you prefer they die a slow, agonising death by starvation as they breed beyond the lands ability to support them? I don’t hunt for sport, and I’ve never taken pleasure from the death of an animal, only in that I did it as quickly and effectively I could, and being happy in the knowledge that my quarry knew nothing about it.
You say you don’t want to argue about it but then use terms which I’m fairly sure you only use to elicit an emotional response from those of us that do hunt. I would wager that more animal suffering has been caused under the banner of animal rights by idiots too lost in their own righteousness to understand their actions and the consequences.

Maybe there should be a meat eater's licence. You have to look it in the eye, kill it, and butcher it. Bonus points for eating all of the fleshy parts, not in one sitting obviously.

It’s a shame but I’m sick of the same rubbish about murdering animals from the same person, I find it distasteful to say the least
