Monday morning for me, got to work knowing I was in for a 60 mile drive to pull another dead boat engine out in the middle of nowhere.

That was fine. On the way back drove past this, did a u turn, found some bloke in the yard, asked if I could take some photos.....

Beautiful caravan, I'd say too far gone, but, oooh, so stylish, and rusty and .. good job I'm skint,

Ha, ha, ha, I didn't even ask, the wood frame is dead. The steel shell is nigh on dead. Chassis and rear axle probably ok.

It's very tempting isn't it.....

I got to say that I generally don't like caravans BUT that one restored and pulled by a period unit would be very stylish if slow mobile home, I like it.

Its a fifth wheeler towed by a pick up truck these days...like a Toyota Hilux......looks a bit like an Airstream.......as far as I know all the fifth whelers are imprted from America.....dont think the market is big enough here but you see more of them than you used to.........they are wider than most caravans although the Europeans are now making 8 feet wide vans.

I think that one has passed its best before date.....you would need to seriously in love with it to take it on.

The German made Hobby vans when they were first brought over here were not road legal in UK because of their size. The regulations have changed now to accommodate the newer vans and higher towing limits on 4x4 vehicles.

Stick it on ebay with a title of "Light restoration/easy project...a few bits missing but mostly in original condition"...but make sure you take off any bits that are remotely useful....then you can list those on ebay and sell them to the original buyer

I wouldnt want one any wider than normal....I dont see the point so its 6" wider....what can you do with 6" (now then)....you get used to being cramped so you learn to live with it.

Yes, last year a fifth wheel pitched up next to us on a camp site, first time I've actually seen one in the UK. I agree about that one being too far gone, shame really.

A good friend of mine is self employed in the USA, He delivers massive fifth wheel caravans/trailors from the factory to where ever the new owner lives, He has a double cab dual wheel pick up truck with a Cummins six point something diesel motor, Also has a custom made 200 gallon extra tank in the bed for long trips,( He is an ex yorkshire man so fills up where ever is cheapest) makes a couple of thousand dollars a week but has to buy the diesel and servicing.

Strange that they chose steel to make the body. I think most UK bus and coach makers used aluminium. It must have taken a real craftsman to form that roof, and the rear panel has a double curve too.
