Cordless Impact Wrenches

I'm in the market for a battery powered impact wrench, I don't currently have a manufacturer preference (i.e. don't currently have a manufacturer battery system) therefore open to all suggestions.

Three manufacturers seem popular:
Makita
Milwaukee
Hikoki (Hitachi)

But open to suggestions...

ive had the snap on impact wrenches up for sale on here, then i had to use them myself did my job no problem but ive used them on cars before anyway used the full setup on cars and landys

did the job that they should do

came with the whole set 3/8s and the main impact gun with recipe saw

I got a mid torque milwalkee 1/2" does everything but crank pulley bolt on my iveco.great tool.

i have a dewalt one and its superb
to save a few pennies i bought the bare body then bought 2 4ah batteries as i allready have a charger wit my drill

I bought the Milwaukee Hi Torque 1/2” earlier this year and its been a God send in fixing up my Mitsubishi Shogun. I have a history of shearing off bolts on this car but since getting this torque gun not one has broken since. It has 4 power outputs as well as custom settings you can create through Bluetooth on your mobile using the app. Between the standard 4 power outputs I have removed everything from driveshaft nuts down to little M6 bolts with ease .
I’ve become a bit of a Milwaukee fan boy and invested in a wide range of their cordless M18 and M12 tools, replacing my corded tools on the back of the torque gun purchase.
On the battery front a 5ah will last most of the day and a 9ah will outlast you and still have plenty left for the next day. Either battery will recharge in around an hour or less.
They’re not cheap but they are very good.

Yep and now its mine. Only got it today so haven't got to use it in anger yet but it seems pretty good. I jumped on it because I'd just ordered a DeWalt drill/driver set so I'd already have the charger and spare batteries. Was just good timing really, I'd spent weeks comparing DeWalt with Metabo, Milwaukee and some others. I considered the purchase as an investment into a cordless system which I'd be stuck with for years so I was considering things like other tools I'm likely to get down the line, extra batteries, etc. If I had the money I'd have got Milwaukee, not because it's a better tool (IMO they're all pretty much the same) but they make a number of tools (Mainly in the 12V range) that no one else does. I may still get some 12V Milwaukee in the future, it's a different battery system anyway so I don't really gain anything by having them all match.

Only Milwaukee and DeWalt make a heavy duty impact wrench this size (1000Nm range, everyone else's are 500Nm or less I believe) so if you need that then take your pick but if the smaller one would do what you need then get a smaller one because this thing is flipping heavy! I definitely don't need it but hey, it was cheap.



Is it 1/2" drive your after? I think DeWalt only make a 1/2" drive so no good if you're wanting something smaller.

Of the brands you mention, I'd stay away from Hikoki until they've been about a few years, who knows what else changed when the name did. I wouldn't get Makita either but thats really just because I don't like the colour.

cant knock my milwaukee's , not the cheapest but they work as advertised , battery life is great too

Dewalt do make a 3/8 18v but USA market only.

I have a cheapo durite one and hasn't got the power to remove wheels. Which is where the dewalt one is epic.
Does give the Milwaukee a decent run for its money ( but dewalt are a few quid cheaper)

It's not necessarily what you need now but what you may want in the future as my boss has Milwaukee but couldn't get the strummer or hedge cutter in this country so ended up buying the dewalt strummer to add to his red gear.

But me having dewalt already ment I can buy the bare bodies easy enough.

I do like the look of the metabo cordless now though also.

The Metabo stuff looks good but it seems a bit expensive if you compare the spec to just about anyone else. They make a lot of metalworking specific tools though, I don't think anyone else makes a cordless bandfile or a really long narrow angle grinder.

Supposed to be naked from ffx for 89 notes on offer.
Arrived with a 5ah battery and charger.

Two power settings
Unless it's long and thick the slower setting is perfect for strimming the lawn. Batteries last twice as long on slow.
When mine is long (4-6 itinches t) 1 and a half 5ah batteries to strim the lot.

Milwaukee has the greatest range of battery tools by far. Look at the small 12v impacts in 1/2 and 3/8 at 340nm torque. They have have the best range of LED lights. Been using the older version of the latest impact every day for 2 years with no issues.

Bought a inspection lamp for the spare battery
Looking at a angle grinder and drill

I have a Snap On 3/8” drive wrench that I’ve used at work for about 6 years that would undo some wheel bolts etc which I was so impressed with I brought another to use at home. Light and easy to use. I also recently brought a bare Dewalt 1/2” for £140 mainly because I have some other Dewalt stuff but it is heavy although it has undone everything I’ve tried it on.

I’ve just been looking on eBay at cheap impact wrenches. Some are less than £60 - total carp or worh a punt? Just for general home DIY car tinkering. Nothing professional...
