The rack is made from 10mm hollow aluminium tube. Although quite strong - 25kg load carrying capacity, the wall of the tubing is probably quite thin-the rack weighs less than 600g. Regardless, I don`t have access to Tig, but I need to find a way to increase the surface area of the rack width ways from the current 11cm. I want to fit a thin plywood box on top that will be around 37cm wide, which is over 3 times the width of the rack . The length of the rack will be ok with a bit of over hang.
The only method I have thought of so far is to secure some large dia plastic pipe at each side with hose clips, but that would probably look a pig`s ear.
Incidentally, the box will be clamped to the rack by a piece of thin ply under the rack, and can stay on as it will be in regular use.
