Tube rung rope ladder

It's got one outboard. (Plus a little backup)
The existing ladder is at the back (stern) which was another consideration, thinking it might be safer to drop the ladder in from the side
It's not that far off the surface to pull someone in but having tried clambering onto a rib (about as close to the water as you get) it's still not easy. I'm, when I was doing that I had a full set of dive kit on but I was younger, fitter, and had younger and fitter people on board helping to pull me in!

That's a good point! The trim/tilt works with the motor off and there are even buttons on the motor so you could lift it yourself while sat on the leg!

Just have to remember that when the time comes!

might sound sill but those telescopic ladders are also a viable way to get on board if you consider something to hold the top 2 stands

Why not just put a folding loop on the bottom of the fixed ladder, dropping down bellow the water line. You can actually buy them like that.

Rope ladders are a nightmare to climb, and trying to get your foot onto the bottom run in the water, will be interesting, bad enough using a metal fold down one.

By tieing knots in a climbing rope you’ll in no way come close to risking it breaking for your use, the load they'll take is something like 22kn, you can help the rope by tieing more rope friendly knots than the basic overhand not. It may be static or dynamic rope, you’ll have issues with stretch on a dynamic rope while climbing it, it's surprising how stretchy they are, although on a short length shouldn’t cause much issue.

Would it not be easier to use two lengths of lightweight chain? a bolt welded into the end of each tube/rung and loose bolt it through the chain links with a washer and nyloc

The ladder on it is much like the one in that Amazon link but only the top section is there and that is above the waterline.
If I had the boat here I would make up a stainless folding section for the bottom but that might have to wait till the winter now.

The boat went down to the mooring last weekend and it wasn't until I got out and into the tender I realised I needed something to get back in on.

I had a go with some plaiting last night and came up with one that I think will do the job for now

I only wanted 4 rungs but the 5th worked out better for threading the rope through. The tube should be heavy enough to sink quickly and hang down well enough for you to get the first foot on, the top rung (maybe the top 2) will be against the gunwal and you won't be able to get your hands behind it when climbing up so I braided a couple of handles in as well.
Just guessing at the size and space but hoping the top loops will drop over the 2 cleats at the rear side so you can just climb up enough to lean over the side and fall onto the deck. If the water is not too cold I will try it at the weekend, will also see if the outboard ram can lift me (ideally I will get someone else to try this) might shorten it down and attach it to the bottom of the existing ladder but thinking it might be better kept in a locker on the boat and chucked in if needed.

I have no plans of falling in if possible but we are going to be fishing so might be wearing heavy clothing and some of us are older and fatter then we need to be. If there were 4 or 5 of us on board it would be easy enough to clip a line onto the jacket harness and pull someone up but there might be times when only 2 of us go out on it

It's surprising how much extra weight clothing gains when in water. Even lightweight sailing waterproofs get quite heavy. I remember that from my survival at sea course, it's a bugger tryin to get into a life raft from the drink. Even two people trying to haul a fat bloke back on board could struggle.

It doesn’t look an easy task getting somebody back in a boat, on those lifeboat programs they look like they really struggle dragging them back on board.

A 6m boat would, I imagine, have low enough freeboard to make physically dragging someone in the boat not too hard to be honest. Certainly I wouldn’t bother with a rope ladder

In an ideal world...
Spreaders every few rungs to prevent twisting, especially if the ladder momentarily swings away from the ship.
Flat rungs with non slip.
Ropes held away from ship avoiding crushed knuckles

have you actually checked the rope to see if / how it floats? if it does and the weight of the tube doesn't compensate, it will just float on the surface, nightmare to get onto. Think Hoods suggestion was the most practical.

I will try hoods idea at the weekend if I can find a volunteer!
The rope does float but it's the same stuff I used when diving and never noticed it being particularly botany, the alloy tubes are 6.5mm wall so I think should be enough to sink it rapidly and hold it down.

A scaling net is the only way forward. Every film after the torpedo has struck has a scaling net with rescued tars painfully making their way up it!

I like the look of the fender steps but they are going to be more floaty than my slightly floaty rope.

If I get hit by a bloody torpedo there is not going to be enough boat left to climb back on to anything.
