Yeah, same here - they take the coils of steel from Tata shotton down to port talbot to be heat treated, usually have a few throughout the day.

I’m not a train fan but I can appreciate a good 37, and I’d love a deltic just to fire up and annoy the neighbours

it wouldn't bother me as I live next to the railway crossing .you get used to it and don't notice

Hi, Those Class 66s go up and down the line at the bottom of the garden hauling mineral wagons to and from the quarry just up the line. Lovely noise when pulling hard, I do like the sound of a big diesel.

If I’m thinking of the right class there used to be a large(ish) fanbase for the class 37, hanging their heads out the windows watching the clagg. Do love the wistling of the turbos, smoke and sometimes flames on start up of the 37s.

can just imagine them holding an oily burning rag on the intake to help it start I wonder how many amps that's pulling on the starter

Some friends of ours lived opposite Penzance station years ago. When I stayed there I noticed they left the engines ticking over all night, if they took all that time to get going & the smoke they made, no wonder!

I did a job at the east lancs railway years ago and needed a diesel loco moving, the guy came to shift it but couldn’t get it started, I was thinking the same thing wondering how they start but he said the batteries were flat and it was battery and starter to get them going. Must be some battery bank.
