Completely non welding! but has anyone come across this before, it's on an old and at the moment fairly healthy Victoria plum tree in my garden.
Haven't seen this sort of thing on a living tree before. Might be chainsaw time, it's a shame because it's a lovely tree that produces loads of fruit.

It looks like a Ganoderma, it's the only one I know and there are several varieties.



Mind you, it's difficult to mistake puffballs and the chicken was pretty obvious. Third time unlucky? 
- yes, also wild rasps. I should have specifically alluded to fungi, it's pretty difficult for anything else to masquerade as brambles or rasps.
