Fiesta interior lights

Picked up my daughters car today. Runs well, nice to drive. One issue we have found is the radio display and surrounding lights stay on after the key is removed. Initially I thought it was the radio been switched on for an hour, been more than an hour and the radio is off but the display and lights are still on. Have we inadvertently change a setting or is this a know fault? Looked on the net, found similar but different issues. It’s a 09 plate 1.6 zetec s

Is not switching off at all and draining battery of staying on for a few mins?

Read about it on Ford forums it's a common theme with radio and odometer staying on but it doesn't seem to do any damage. They say it does go off eventually and doesn't cause battery problems as it's very low power light.

Swap the lamps for LED's as these sort of issues are often difficult and time consuming to solve, you could always add another door switch and make your own light?

Ok that’s goodish. Was hoping we had changed a setting. Car has warranty so can get the garage to fix it

Slightly OT, but my BMW takes c 20 minutes to fully 'go to sleep' after shutdown.

There's a light setting in the menu somewhere, I think it was only for the "extra" lights, might be worth a try ?

I'm surprised by that, I don't get why they would design those lights to stay on anyway, seems odd to me??

The dash "info centre" display on Mrs. Robo's Vauxhall stays on after she's locked the car, don't know how long for though, it also comes on as soon as you unlock it before opening the door.

My Fiesta dash lights stay on for ages if you open a door, not two hours though. I expect they will already be LEDs so won't take much power. I think everything goes off double quick if you actually lock it.

Still on this morning, double locked it last night. Joined one of the fiesta forums. From what’s been said , I think it may be a door lock issue or a brokenn wire from a door lock. Sons taking it to work to see if anything comes up on the computer. If it’s a simple fix we’ll do it if not back to the garage.

My Fiesta tells you in no uncertain terms if a door is not closed properly. I had the usual "tailgate unlatching itself" problem last year, and it always told me "boot open", on the screen as I was driving along.

Does depriving the radio of the feed mean that any pre-stored stations will now be 'lost'?

Possibly but it’s not my car and I don’t listen to radio 1

The cars going in this week to be looked at and fixed. Would of liked it in quicker but replies from the garage were slow. I felt they hadn’t checked the car over fully and wanted fuel for two cars if the Fiesta was staying in and my time paid for or a courtesy car. I suggested it may be cheaper for them to find a garage local to me that I could take the car to. This is what they have agreed to. Good for us, might not be so good for them! We found two other issues, water getting into the boot, the drivers window is temperamental. I know how much they paid for the car, paperwork was left in the service book, we didn’t pay much more than they paid! Their profit will be nil after the work is done.

Given how many Fiestas have been sold over the years it still surprises me how little support/knowledge there is on the net. My mum has older Fiesta that has a problem where the battery light stays on, it still charges fine so she has lived with it and I'm too far away to put any time into it. A quick google shows it a common problem but there seems to be no definitive guide.

If that was Landrover or Volvo(the cars I have) there would be a step by step guide with pictures pinpointing exactly where the problem is.

I wouldn't be surprised if the water getting in the bot could be part of your problem, moisture in modern cars can cause all manner weird problems

The water could well be part of the issue. I think a wire from a door lock maybe the cause, car not knowing it’s locked and letting the lights stay on. You are right about lack of info on the net. I joined a fiesta owners group, good guys. They know our issue with the lights staying on but no one has a definitive answer. I would investigate it myself but the car has warranty so they can fix it.
