Can moving parts be zinc plated?

I need to do something to corrosion proof this locking bar I’m making.

You need to speak to the platers and I assume you mean plate and not hot dip.
Ask the people that know!
I’d make it so the lugs are dowelled on so it can be disassembled for plating

It would need to come apart to ensure good coverage. The plating will eventually wear off parts in contact with each other but will give some protection.

I'd just paint it but drill the hinge for a grease nipple or even just an oil hole.

zinc and yellow passivate holds up better than just the silver zinc finish.....had loads done in the past and still good....
on 1 of my antique trucks ....over 20 years ago.......

The way I’ve needed to make these, there’s no option to disassemble. Unless I made the hinges like conrod ends, in two halves.

They’re a bloody snug fit. 20mm bar, 20mm holes (came slightly oversized using 20mm rotabroach / annular cutter).

He will have to just have it painted.

That's going to rust and seize - never mind the slightest kink from dropping something on/against it jamming it or making it stiff.

rust yer,but wont seize if in regular use i'd have put a couple of more holed brackets on it though between centre and ends

It’s an Ali body made of 3mm sheet it’s not going to see any real loads, sure the three 20mm hinges will be fine.

I very much doubt that mate. It will be used fairly regularly so won’t seize and is made from EN8. Not your standard S275 that bends easily.

En8 ain't that tough !
As for zinc plating they likely won't take it incase it carries them between baths ,you would also get it back with steaks of rust where the chem got but not the zinc .
It's also good at finding poor restarts in welds in the last regards and all welds must be full

what you need is Hot Metal Spraying or Thermal Spraying there is a company protect coatings up your way maybe worth giving them a call.We have the setup but as yet not got round to trying it out

Bout 300-400MPa yield mate in the rolled state.
I’ve got a test cert somewhere.

It’s looking like playing isn’t going to be an option then.
