Boxing in unvented cylinder

Another building related question - rapidly turning this into a DIY forum but with so many experiences trades and great advice on here it seems a waste not to

So, had a new unvented cylinder and oil boiler put in last year. Now tidying up the utility room and want to box in the cylinder as it looks like something from Dr Who.

Are there any building regs or best practice regarding space around the cylinder/pipes. None of it gets particularly hot so probably cooler than a traditional airing cupboard but though I better check before I start cutting up MDF

Idea is wall to ceiling "cupboard" around cylinder leaving boiler exposed on right.

Put a cupboard around it, pretty much everything needs to be accessible as it will need replacing at some point

seems a bit of a bonkers location for the ch/hw programmer if that's what's in the bottom wall box? you'll need regular access to that, so ideally its moved to an appropriate height outside the cupboard, or on the partition you create?

as suggested, i'd cupboard the lot in. the boiler likely wont need air if its a balanced flue (air drawn from the external section of flue, exhaust in the middle)

You could make an L shaped free standing structure with a hinged joint,Removed in seconds when required.

Yep, plan is to build a box/cupboard around, side panel fixed, front upper panel removable with a door at bottom. Relocate controls to door or inside door on a higher panel.

Just as space is a bit tight want to make sure there aren't any minimum ventilation/space requirements.

funny you say that.

6 months ago i had to heavily modify units to fit around an installation like that plus a water softener to customers drawings. Boiler hidden in extra deep wall unit.
Warned him at the time access would be non existent.
Sure enough. phone call last week. element has gone in the imersion can i come and help gain access.
Barely anything left of the original unit then. Now theres hardly anything holding it all together. was plenty of room to build a proper airing cupboard for the lot and still have a utility room for the DOG...

One of these people that knows it all. paid twice over to have his house renovated by cutting corners.

Its pretty good tbh, there's a lot to connect plus minimum distances from discharges, safetys and tundish. Plus the D2 discharge has to be vertical for a minimum distance so that can affect placement.

Not really. Design of the cylinder doesn’t help.

maybe we need a shot of the whole room, it’s neat as it is but layout just not thought properly. It seems to me that the boiler could have been fitted in the spot where the cyl is now and the whole instal could have been fitted on one side of the room- easy to box in ! The window doesn’t help where it’s at but I am sure it could have been improved upon !

Excuse my ignorance but why are there 2 expansion vessels? I was under the impression that the cylinder itself was the expansion vessel for the DHW hence the blow off, tundish etc. I've fitted a few and never needed one. Heatrae sadia tho

One is for the heating circuit, the other is for the cylinder.

Don't think the cylinder needs one tho. I could be wrong but theres not one on mine nor any other I have installed. That was a few years ago so maybe things have changed

It’s a pressurised or unvented cylinder, needs the vessel to allow for expansion as the water heats up

Some unvented cylinders don’t need a separate vessel as they maintain an air bubble in the top. Heatrae Sadia megaflos do that.
