Hes not too bad. Cosistently hits the target from ten metres bbut needs a bit more strength in his arms.
Always been a pretty good shot so I picked these up for myself.
Nice little 55 pound compound

Been playing with the soft arrows over the weekend and they work surprisingly well but want to make a target up now.

Plan is 12x2 frame with a slot 1/4 down both sides.
Chicken wire both sides amd finished with weed control fabric.
Top 12x2 notched to suit the slot and threaded bar either side to compress the filing.

That's what Im not sure on.
Old clothes is on option but read about people using old plastic bags.

Ive got loads of cheap old tarps and was debating using them. Will they do the. Job?
Any other options. Didnt want to go cloth as will be out in all weather

It is. Really impressed with the set.
Even at an accute angle the suckers stick. Not hugely acurate due to drag.

Straw targets are used but there pricey to buy

Any bale of straw left in my garden for long would end up scattered everywhere. Kids are very destructive in there play.

Advantage to making a lifetime target its easy to add more packing/replace covers as required and I can make it large for the 7yo.

Already found a good few in the local area mate. Need to look Into which one I want us to join.

That said. I still want to shoot at home.

I can't recall the legalities but I think you're on a sticky wicket shooting in a back garden - but then if you're landed gentry..! It's can also a highly technical sport at higher levels, sometimes miss it.

Best thing about joining a club is that through the overarching organisation (FITA or GNAS, they may have changed since I last shot) you might get legal cover just in case, etc. Local lad in village has been seen shooting in local woodland (an SSSI, Site of Special Scientific Interest - conservation area) and common area where we all walk dogs - and local retired copper was going to ask a colleague to have a word...

Took the time to do a little reading before responding.
While not illegal if there is an incident and its found you didnt take every reasonable precaution your for it.

With that in mind I have a self built shed.
About 5m long. Enough for a short indoor range for practicing.

Constructed from 5x2 studs clad in 18mm marine ply
Battened then clad in feather edge.

Il aquire a load of old carpet to layer and tack between studs across the back and a few studs down the sides and a few studs across the roof.
In front of rear wall il build a target as described above.

Any overshoots will be stopped and ricochets will have nowhere to fly.

Might finally motivate me to move the rest of my junk to the lock up.

Grandson is a member of a club near Matlock and uses a 28lb recurve bow. As long as you don't do anything dangerous like aim up in the air I can't see anyone having a problem especially if you are shooting into the shed.

I do quite a bit of target archery, I have a 50lb re-curve and a 60lb hard cam compound.

For relatively low poundage bows you can use simple foam targets (not those compressed with wood around the outside, just pieces of high density foam) but if you go up in poundage you need proper targets and if you keep going up then even the compressed straw of layered foam targets need a rubber backing to stop the arrows going through.

search for a layered foam target basically 1M x 1M x300mm thick built up from 10mm sheets of open cell foam the arrows stick into the boss between the layers

Indeed. Have doubts about foam targets hence wanting to build something more substantial.

Even something substantial I’d have my doubts about, only had a go with a compound once when the archery club had a visit to the range and we all swapped shooty things for an afternoon, they’re bloody terrifying

They are fantastic, they always bring a smile shooting them, I have a Freak SP, one of the faster target bows you can get and the arrows will be sticking through the compressed foam targets at 100 yards.

Our club have suggested it is unsporting for me to use it at the 20m fun shoots - although the arrows that go completely through the target do not count.

There is no way a high power compound should be shot in someones garden unless they have the required 250m distance to give the appropriate overshoot.

If a standard foam target will not stop it at 10m it should not be shot in an urban garden (even if it will I have my doubts)

You will probably never get very far with that compound, you need a good ATA (axle to axle) length and at 206 fps it is not really any faster than a reasonable recurve bow. It also seems to indicate it has a fixed draw length which will make it rather interesting to shoot unless you just happen to have that draw length yourself.
