Yes, your brain. Much harder to hack remotely.
If you did the basic thing of a different password each site or signed up with a different email each site you would know where they got password and email from.
You would also know if they got both from the same site or not.
My posts in the TLS thread may make more sense to folk now

Actually it's not something a memory issue needs to stop you doing.
I don't remember passwords I remember a way of making passwords.
So for example you could start with the same password and "break it" by putting a couple of letters from the start of the website name or something memorable in the middle.
If you also access websites from a phone and do save the passwords then some phone web browsers allow you to see the passwords after putting in your phone unlock password. That could be your store.
The big one here is don't tick "save password". People remember passwords they use all the time and get better at it.
Also a different user name on every forum stops people searching your username and trying the password elsewhere
If you can hold all your passwords in your brain all the better, for the consumer it is difficult. Certainly for banking fraud technical compromises (malware etc) are still prevalent but made more difficult via 2 factor authentication so fraudsters have turned to the new weakest link and thats the human so social engineering is the current favoured method. Phishing, smishing and vishing purporting to be from Large corporates, websites, banks, law enforcement etc are very convincing and easily dupe consumers into releasing the passwords straight from the brain.
There are things you can do to avoid social engineering, use spam filters and turn on phishing protection where possible. Generally be vigilant and always remember NO bank will ever ask you for full security details online and it would be extremely suspicious for a website to do so too if it doesn't as part of the BAU logon process.

I often joke about setting up an "Am I on spam list or not" website
All it need to is reply "Yes" and submit someone to a spam list to always be correct.
Hence I never use anything like the above, whether legitimate or not, I just don't check.
It really isn't difficult.
Saving passwords and never using them makes them fade from memory, Using it every time you log in the forum reinforces it.
The "save password" tick box you think is your friend is put their to reduce other peoples work (password resets) it's not there for your benefit and it trains you to be bad at it.
