Only dealers can also struggle and you can be without your car for a long time while they scratch their head trying to fix things. I only ever once bought used from a dealer, did have problems, and they weren't covered by the warranty.I think with the complexity of modern cars it pays to buy from a main dealer whether new or second hand. They have the gear to repair, normally have a robust warranty in place and they cant disappear like the Arthur Daileys backstreet brigade. Its normally these scallywags that buy the rubbish thats not wanted on the forecourts , a quick valet, backstreet MOT, a mate to knock out all the warning lights and clear codes, advert and wait for a mug/punter to purchase.

My experience is they have to follow a set "fix it" guide for each fault, often just a case of replacing items in sequence until the fault goes away.I think with the complexity of modern cars it pays to buy from a main dealer whether new or second hand. They have the gear to repair...

My attitude now is to have two older cars. Yes they are less reliable, but by having two one is always working and I still end up quids in. The other issue I have with new cars is I quickly destroy them. Dog, kids, equipment being moved for hobby or work projects... they quickly get devalued so I won't by new or even new'ish cars.

This soon gets expensive if you're paying for their time and several major parts that were never faulty, before they change the part that is faulty.
For dealers, time = money, it's quicker (ie cheaper !) for them to swap likely parts out rather than attempt detailed fault testing of very complicated units.
Yeah I agree...Bit of a Gallagher ?....you are gonna have to explain that bit of rhyming slang Slimboy ....
