So true about the big telly. When I was teaching I often had to visit the homes of dodgy kids and non attenders. Sometimes you would be getting the parents out of bed if you went before 12pm. Houses were often a tip, no wallpaper etc. - but they always had Sky, a PlayStation, and a big telly.

and dont forget about planning premission......you'll have to ask your missus for permission before you plan anything

when I bought the pillar drill that is in the bedroom, I didnt think about how to drag it up a flight of stairs, if it was an old british one, I think I'd have been struggling.

As BT apprentice I went to some houses where you didn't need to clip the cable to the skirting, it just stuck there with all the detritus. You daren't stand in one spot too long or your shoes would permanently stick to the carpet. "Would you like a cup of tea?" Only if it comes with a tetanus jab

just out of curiosity u worked for bt . what would u have done if there wasn't a skirting board or a door frame to clip your cables to or a window frame to bring the cable in

Just made me think of how many used this nugget: "You'll have to excuse the mess. We're in the middle of decorating". Christ, when you think back to some of the dumps you've had to work in. Was that wet patch on the carpet you just knelt in water or pee. Are those turds on the carpet from the dog or the bairn, etc., etc., etc.

There were a few occasions where I came home, stripped & chucked my clothes in the washer & jumped straight in the bath.

I disinfected my tools sometimes sprayed myself with flea spray and wore overalls with elasticated cuffs to stop getting bitten

One I can always remember vividly is the bucket of pee a couple of feet away from where I was working. Middle of summer, hot day and flies congregating around it. Some memories aren't worth remembering.

Simple, Hey baby I'm your telephone man, tell me where you want it and I'll put it where I can etc. etc.

I went to one house to fit a phone and never got as far as the front door, the police jumped out of the shrubs and collared me. Evidently there was a suspicious death in the house the night before and I may have been the perpetrator returning to the scene of the crime in blue overalls, acne and with a beige 706 dial phone, a bag of tools and a roll of cable.

well thats the way my house is looking at the minute.......Ive finally had a tidy up and now its tidy enough for me to make a mess again......and I've even managed to find some floor space too.

there is no point in having a 3 bedroom house for me to live in on my own .......a 3 workshop house makes perfect sense though well it does to me anyway.

Done the fleas @brightspark they don't bight me but my Mum they loved, turds & pee in a potty in the back of a car we had to service been on the parking bay in the sun for 4 hours, houses with no doors or door surrounds in one no floorboards either & I understood from a mate on the council they had started on the roof joists, another with 6 Ft of tree being pushed int the fire place as it burnt.

You were lucky regarding drinks some of ours did not ask just handed you a jam\ milk bottle full of tea wait till they went out of room & hoped they had a potted plant

When I was about 20 odd and living with my parents, I stupidly made a corner of my room a little workbench for doing all sorts of stuff. I have a feeling that it interfered with my health, breathing in all manner of wood/metal dust etc. I always try to keep my workshop separate from my living space now. Make sure you keep the place well ventilated.
