I doubt many do it at all today. Shame ! Not something I ever really remember doing out of my first two years at college. Only two guys in our shop actually got involved for real with it, by then (mid eighties) just an odd specialist place. There was a specialist shop in the town that did all that stuff being duct work specialists .When I was serving my time, the steelworks had a proper tinsmiths shop, A treat to watch them working, they made anything and everything. Beautiful folded seams and a perfect run of solder using various irons including a nice big hatchet one.
About to shove this and another one in the drawer, and then suddenly had an urge to clean them up a gnat's.

I've still got some of my dad's. By far better then a modern electric IMO as you can get them nice and hot for big jobs.
