Need a new hand saw for general woodwork duties around the house

What’s everyone using, there’s so much choice

My current saw is an Irvin with orange handle, it don’t cut very well anymore

They are more or less disposable now, I just get any from around the £7 - £8. You get some kinds that also cut on the back stroke.

Bacho 2000 Supercut with Teflon coating no rust and holds the edge better than my old S&J from when they were sought after saws
However they are disposable as not possible to sharpen with a file.

I usually grab some from Screwfix or Toolstation whenever they have them on offer, I think Irwin, Stanley or sandvik would all be much of a muchness - the last few have been Irwin (for no other reason than they were the cheapest) and they were fine.

That’s what I have, it’s coming to the end of its life though, it’s been a great saw and done lots of work, I did wonder if you could sharpen with a dremel type tool,

I have a couple of 70’s spear and Jackson ones, that I can and do sharpen, from my father, who was a joiner, and I don’t do that much woodwork, so don’t need to sharpen very often, I prefer tools that are not throwaway, but good saws are so cheap, that it’s hardly worth sharpening old ones, my father would do it weekly, and was glad when hardpoint saws were introduced,

I would avoid the ultra cheap ones though.

Irwin Jack..22" universal.. as soon as it start to loose it's edge/set or gets a kink, ditch it and get another. They're not expensive, about £7-8 They cut pretty clean, and pretty fast even in damp timber.

The saws are all induction hardened so you can't sharpen them anyway.

Sandvik or Husky 357, yes I’ve used a chainsaw in a house! Dusty but very quick and not my house

Most are hard point throw away, I don't think anyone sharpens their saws like we used to do.

my brother sharpens his saws sandvic and disston not used in a works environment where time is money

I bought an old Henry Disston USA many years ago, lovely saw. Sharpened it many times within an inch of it's life.

I had a sandvic till some thieving scrote joiner pinched it at work they even swap your disposable saws if yours is sharper than there's I mark my tools though
