I have bought from rapid welding supplies before, good quick service and good prices. That is from the same makers Technical Arc as portamig. There was one on ebay being sold by tecarc, but not listed anymore.

yep its a techarc unit, not sure if its the old model or not. Weldequip would know. price is £500 inc carrage, just look it doesnt say Plus vat so one would assume that includes VAT

Why would tec arc have stuff on ebay weldeqip? As I said they had the same model selling for around that price.

Its not tecarc selling it. But there is one thing to be said about the tech arc units and i need weldequip to confirm this. But i believe that not all there units are the same, its specification can depend on the badge/name it carries, there are slight variations of the same unit.

Unfortunatley the welding market relies on volume sales to make any kind of decent money, and this is true of most manufactured products. And there lies the world's problems
We are producing too much stuff for too little money (China being soley to blame). We need to produce less stuff for more money before everything settles back down...back to the quality days.

Tell me about it! I have seen stuff that is similar to what I make and I can't buy the materials for what they are being sold for. I don't make much on the stuff I make as it is, but if I put a price that I think I should get I just wouldn't sell it. And things are going to get a lot harder and more competitive in the next 18 months.
I'm really not sure it's fair to blame China, Weldequip. I agree 100% that too much stuff is produced too cheaply and lacks the quality of older kit. I'd also agree that a lot of this stuff comes from China. The thing is, who's buying it? Us! China just happen to be in the fortunate position of having all the right ingredients to make it happen for ludicrously low prices (namely cheap and plentiful labour) and are filling a gap in the market. The only way we're going to see a return of quality is if the demand exists. Unfortunately too many people think they're getting a bargain when they buy some piece of junk and don't appreciate the increase in quality they might have experienced if they'd bought a more expensive item.

Shouldn't you be talking about dealers selling for so little they can't possibly offer good support, or things like the eurotorch not be included in the package rather than blaming the Chinese on this one?
So who is going to be the first to pimp their SIP with a Portamig wire feed motor?

Or more importantly how it is a manufacturer is undercutting his dealers.... Surely that's a no-go area?

My apologies, it wasn't tec arc that I seen selling the welder on ebay it was the same tec arc model being offered for the same sort of money by someone else. tecarc just had the torches, regs, wire feeds etc But it definately wasn't rapid welding.

But are we not all guilty of cheap prices. How many people on here now use a milkman, or go to the local supermarket for milk?
