Me today Took my van for MOT today, parked it in the drive after, no problem.
After tea I put the bin out for tomorrow and as i walked past the van the odometer light was still illuminated, hmmm.
Long story short I've had half of the dash in bits all door pins out and ignition barrel in bits, What was it?...........the tester had left the fog light switch on but with my lights not being on there was no warning light

The fogs wernt on but the dash was lit up and not going out with the fog switch in the on position.

Cam belt change on the van(mk5 tranny) all the bits off,new bits etc on all setup ready to go,and...............................
Theres the retaining bolt for the belt tensioner that i put in a place so i wouldn't forget it..........plonker

Many years ago I was changing the clutch in a 205. This was when I was young & fit so it was done on the floor with jacks & axle stands with me balancing the gearbox on my knees to wiggle it in place.
Everything went smoothly until I went to connect the cable & noticed it was very slack. It was then that I noticed the release bearing sitting on the bench!

Went out the door, driving up the road I got the “ i’ve forgotten something feeling “, carried on driving and it suddenly hit me what I had forgotten. My rifle! 10 mile round trip to get. Doh

I was once in a frantic rush jumped on bike lid on and down the road, I couldn't understand why I had limited vision and I had to tilt my head down to see? Bloody lids shrunk?? Must have left it by a radiator ?!?!

Went to the Motorfactors a couple of years ago first thing in the morning, on the way back I noticed white stripes down each side of my jogging bottoms. None of my joggers have stripes, only my PJ’s!

Some years ago I had to do a technical sales presentation to the senior management at a customer's site somewhere up in the North London suburbs but had also been booked in by my bosses for an "important" internal meeting in the city only a short while later.

I thought, impossible by public transport and could easily go wrong taking a cab, so I'll go on my motorbike and change out of my bike leathers and into my suit and shoes using the reception area toilets that I knew from previous meetings were at the customer site.

When I arrived in the customer's car park, I was dismayed to find no sign of my suit bag on the Katana's tiny luggage rack - I thought 'the bloody bag has probably fallen off somewhere on the A1'. Fortunately the bag with my laptop was still there, so after a hurried explanation to the customer's technical guys, I just got on with the presentation. If the company's senior management thought it was a bit odd that the "closing" presentation was being done by a bloke who looked like a motorcycle courier, they were far too polite to say so.

When I got home that evening and put the bike in the garage, I found my suit bag hanging right beside the bike's parking space.

done meny stupid forgetting stuff gone to the top of a ladder forgot the screws went to go get a paint brush walked in to the garage and thought what am i here for

but those did not cost me money but went to scrapys a few times once there was some thing that my son wanted in one of there bins spoke to the bloke yes thats fine if you can get it goes to the car the was a big engine on what he wanted used the bar to lift it and pulled out the item put the bar on the side went home went back 2 hours later to get the bar it was gone

only few weeks later droped a few cables off for the kids spoted a mini moto there missing a engine and my son needed a few bits for his so asked had a deal of a few quid and went home next day went to use my builders buckets there not there and the dread that i had left the 3 of them at the scrapys

I know that feeling all too well - with mine it was a Mk2 Ford Cortina, same thing though (But with snow on the ground !!) ...... mutter mutter ... Anyway - same eveing I eventually got the gearbox back in AGAIN, and as I was now late jumped in to drive off and see my girlfriend 40 miles away. On the return journey, awful squeaking.. Never mind - drive on.... MORE squeaking - It's 02:00 on a very cold and dark M5, so drive on...... Next comes the BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG and the car started shaking itself to bits.

Let's all just learn from this - if you're in a hurry PLEASE remember to put gearbox oil back in, otherwise YOUR prop-shaft may weld itself to YOUR gearbox as mine did, and whack all hell out of the transmission tunnel into the bargain.

Tried refilling the oil in an engine I had left the sump plug off, 20 quid of oil on the floor makes you look like a Berk.

I was working with a fella years ago who was doing a clutch in a 4motion transporter van, he was almost finished it when I got another new release bearing and put it down on the bench beside the old one. The look on his face when he noticed it sitting there was priceless, to say he went nuts would be an understatement. When I told him it was a joke and he didn't have to take the box back out I wasn't sure if he was going to hit me or hug me
