I use a a Raspberry pi for streaming but there is no Youtube that works on it for long
Yeah but....lol. my spare CPU's are not in working machines...lolCPUZ is a great tool

Tells you everything you need to know about the machine you run it on. No more crawling under desks trying to see what type of ram it has.
Thats my thinking....but needed it confirmed. Its as much knowing what drives performance. Lots of ram seems to be the thinking especially as i generally run 64bit windows. Then processor then mobo....given they are all 775 anyway. On the chip itself is a number, below the pentium/intel blabla , the bottom one I could read Pentium SL9c8, and I searched that name in google.
But chances are that the most modern motherboard also is fitted with the newest processor.
If they all are alike performance wise I would choose the motherboard which can take the most memory you have available for the best performance.
I'd rather have a single core 3.0ghz with 16GB of ram then a single core 3.2 with 4 GB of ram. In that case the 200mhz the processor has extra, is let down by the small amount of ram.
If you have a dual or quad core processor available I would build the setup around that, even if you do not have most memory for that particular motherboard/processor.
Being older technology you could easily find a stick of ram at bargain prices 2nd hand.
Can you expand a little...out of interest.I use a a Raspberry pi for streaming but there is no Youtube that works on it for long
I use the Raspberry pi with Kodi it just works as a stand alone front end to let me play media i have on my server, The is a add on for youtube but i think they blocked it recently again. Kodi is also used for streaming fro illegal sites but i just use it for access to my media as it saves having a wall full of discs hanging about, I do have the origianls i just keep them in boxes. Can you expand a little...out of interest.
Just bought a firestick. but going to use Plex instead of kodi to stream media from media server pc. youtube app is already on the firestick too.Someone i was just chatting to at home says he uses kodi on a firestick to do his streaming and youtube to his bedroom tv...seems an option for about £35..The other thing he was on about was pc on a stick but there more like £150..

Dont suppose there is anything for Android that does that??There is a great little program for downloading Youtube videos you want to keep - works with other sites as well.
Youtube-dl
https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl
It is purely command line - love it. Downloads the highest res version.
You will also need this installed.
https://www.ffmpeg.org/download.html
You can also use it to pull off audio tracks and then listen to them in the car!
I have just downloaded a load of milling machine videos off Youtube which I can now watch whenever I like.
There good chips. Your newest board stated core 2 quad so should be good.Thats the fastest my board will take or thats the one i should buy.![]()
