Can I remind members the OP asked for advice and help for a personal issue.

I realise the forging of money was meant in jest and the slight political comments happen in many threads but they soon lead to stronger comments which end with the thread being locked.

Please keep suggestions on topic and legal, plenty of political forums out there you can join if you wish to have a rant.

Hi Andy, not sure if I can offer much advice but a few ideas.

If you are good on PC skills and artistic, could you offer drawing's dxf for people to plasma / laser /router cut or engrave.

You are already looking at pens, Kent has thrown in knives, and you have mentioned lathe work, have you considered any ideas or things you have build and drawing up plans for them.

Even going on the forum Homemadetools.com and seeing if anyone's ideas want drawing up.

All guesswork as I do not know what your skill sets are, but just trying to consider tasks that could have an easy deadline and not take you out away from home.

I know its not in the engineering line, but a mates wife makes a good living out of packing things at home. This could be anything like leaflets in envelopes, items in boxes to send out, items in boxes for shops, etc.
The items are delivered and picked up from her house and she does it in the garage. Might be something like that from a local company to you?

Spoke to a mate today and he is just retired and as a hobby and topping up his pension he is going round charity shops and also as mentioned here looking on Freecycle, He sells items onto hipster types he said he is making £400 a month without much fuss, While we were chatting he noticed i had a large collection of used bricks on the drive and asked why i used recycled bricks, After i explained clean used bricks can be around 70p each and i have been getting them free he rubbed his hands together and said he knew where there are thousands lol

Mate is into Viking reinactment and things have to be made along authentic lines. Metal items like, blunt, swords, axe heads, shield dome plus loads of smaller things are quite expensive and sell easily. It isn't just Viking but there must be other reinactment groups who require metal items to be custom made.

I made a rose for the wife from 0.5mm stainless steel sheet - big mistake. Once her friends saw it they all wanted one and to date I have made about 30, selling at £30 each. I make them in copper and brass as well as steel, same price but easier to make, and have branched out into copper tulips as well. All orders were from word of mouth. I don't advertise as I don't really need the money but if I did I would take a stall at local craft fairs and put them on local Facebook pages. If you are interested I have cutting patterns and also a couple of You Tube videos on how to make them.

Dog minding and walking. A colleague is leaving the oil industry, moving to the country with her partner and they're going to do dog minding and walking. The idea is they meet folk at a designated place each day, collect the dogs and then return them at the end of the day. They are then going to branch out to keeping horses, but folk will need to look after their own horse, they will just supply the land and facilities.

they make really good money from it, £250/week for a big dog while the owner is away - people are happy paing more than a normal kennel for their dog to be looked after and cared for in a home instead of shut in a cage all day

one even charged £50 to look after a tortoise for a week!

Lol. The neighbours complain when my son brings his dog round. The good neighbours dont like his deep bark and the bad neighbours just hate anything that breathes.

Worth thinking about but i think the bad neighbours would have a melt down...

Animal care is big money, a local couple converted a shed into housing for 6 cats, a nice inside sleeping area and very secure small individual run outside.

They made a nice job of it, very posh andwell decorated etc and they are booked solid nearly all year, I was told they are getting nearly £100 a week per cat and the cat owner has to provide the food which removes the argument they were fed with the wrong stuff.

I am thinking of the same line with goldfish, reckon I can get 200 goldfish bowls in the garage, this time next year I will be a millionaire.

Not at all mate. Extremely grateful to anyone who replies. I am feeling very up and down to some lurgy i have had come back again. Both the wife and i have it together which is unusual.

But yes i am going to write a list up and see which ones fit together....

My sisters kids were into highland dancing & their dance group were wanting a few sets of swords for practice. The place they bought them was charging £30 a pair & my sis asked me how much I could make them for. All they were was a piece of 30x3 steel strip for the blade, not sharpened & a piece of 50x3 bent into a half moon & tig welded into place for the handle. They were not polished, just painted silver - I would be well paid at £10.

My sis suggested that I could supply the swords at 1/3 price, saving the dance group money. But the leader of the group insisted that they had to come from the official supplier which was bunkum as they were only for practice, not a competition. My sis reckons that the leader was getting kick-backs from the supplier, she was later suspected to be fiddling the books & asked to leave!
