It’s a scam or he’s a liar

If it is the usual scam they will have opened a bank account a couple of months ago, filtered some small amounts in and out to make it look genuine and then across the various internet sites have possibly a couple of thousand adverts for just about anything at all that is popular.

They will finish the sale on all the ads at the same time giving themselves a week for potential buyers to think their item is being delivered/posted so not start panicking.

In that week they empty the bank account of all the bank transfers and are long gone, possible earnings for little work is £100K or even much more.

Little things give it away.
The torch is a speedway but it’s got a round handle where I turned it in the lathe. The loop in the cable going to the machine. I did thar to tidy up the excess. The quick connection on the six inch bit of hose on the back. My mod. Too much of a coincidence for all those personal touches to be the same. It was mine.

What did it weld like?? I am thinking of getting a new machine...perhaps i can knock him down by telling him i know how old it is.

Well if that was your magicwave then the seller is lying, they cannot then have owned it from new. Are those your photos as well? It may not be a scam as such but they want to improve the selling price by lying about these details. With so many owners of this, is there a known problem with this set?

They ain’t my photos and no the set was spot on when I had it.
It might be genuine sale but something like age and arc hours been lied about is something a buyer can check straight away so I’d assume the set probably doesn’t exist in his possession.

ebay now blocks giving out address and phone numbers in messages so there is a good chance that viewing it is not possible.

One could ask them to send contact details as a .jpg, right?

^^^^ Yep, they are catching people out very easily now with whatever they are using and punishment is swift

They'e paranoid about people arranging private sales and them losing out on the fees, I once got asked by a buyer to send a vat invoice and it was pretty much impossible to reply as everything I typed got blocked 'as it looked like I was trying to set up a sale outside of eBay'

Of course if you asked eBay it's all about protecting users....

Some i understand....but their pathetic well you can return it...cuts no ice with me.

I agree, it's pathetic really.

Their own terms state that bidding (and winning) is entering into a contract to buy, and something can be exactly as described but not suitable for your needs - which you'd discover on an inspection visit and then decide whether to bid.

I've even heard of problems with people trying to arrange collection with numbers and addresses being blocked - after the bidding has ended.

Virtually stopped using ebay. It isn't the place it was - full of scammers and people trying to get one over..ebay being one of them!

This is the first I've heard of it, could it be beaten with something like "My number is 0A7A5A8A3A4A5A3A9A5A4 but without the As"?

It's not going to stop outside sales, it's just going to pee off everyone who does follow the rules.

Weirdly, I've always been able to send out any communications (replies) directly from my phone email account not via the eBay app. They seem to let them send and don't block email addresses or phone numbers. Not tried it for a few months but worked quite recently.
