Yeah I know it's a spirit level but.. it hasn't got lines for the bubble to sit between, that I can see anyway,it has got ajusting screws though, that lift or drop the bubble glass.View attachment 122914 View attachment 122914
Its a thumb plane.I will take a couple more pics tomorrow, been cleaning this up todayView attachment 122944
It's not fussy, it's just took the top off my little finger..Its a thumb plane.
Hee hee, think it's a Preston rabbet actually..You should get a finger plane then if that's what you are going to use it for, right tool for the job and all that...
Not seen one like that before. Can see the thumb screw for depth adjustment. Assume the top assembly is to hold the bottom of the blade tight. Is there no provision for fences?Hee hee, think it's a Preston rabbet actually..View attachment 122945
Not a clue.. it's buffed up nice, I'll post a couple of pics tomorrow. Not seen one like that before. Can see the thumb screw for depth adjustment. Assume the top assembly is to hold the bottom of the blade tight. Is there no provision for fences?
Cleaned up ok, it's a Preston no.2509.Belonging to an A. Alford .
It is beautiful in its functional robust simplicity.
I think it's had a shim fitted behind the bullnose,it doesn't look an original part.View attachment 122966

Gave the glass a bit of a wipe,, now I can see two grooved lines in the glass.Looks the smaller screws are locking, when the two large screws are loosened the glass can be moved up and down in the frame. How much adjustment is there? Does it deflect the base because I can't see why else it would need four adjusting screws. You might be able to set a radius on the bottom to find the centre of an arch or the high point of a very gentle hump
