The building trade went metric in 1970, no one told them, you still get 8x4 sheets,
young lads start off on centimetres but after a week are in inches,
Cutting out holes for speakers I was, "That's 24 inches and 8mm."
A similar thing happens every day.
u obviously don't work on old british machinery thenMm always. The exception is timber stock. Fence panels doors ect. 2'6" door. 6' panel.
Can't get my head around imperial. Born to late and never had the need to until recently.
If you measure 8x4 sheets you will find that they are 1220x2440. I still ask for an 8x4 sheet of 19mm ply though I do tend to work in millimetres as opposed to feet and inches or metres and centimetres as opposed to my wife who works in inches and millimetres.
I do now hence recently. Most of the measuring devices I've found at car boots this year are imp too. Needs must. You say 7/16th and it means nothing.u obviously don't work on old british machinery then

My dad still works in imperial, drives me mad i do a rough conversion on the fly as we talk.
