How to fix(botch because fix is a strong word here)

My mate moved in to a house a couple years ago I gave him as house warming gift a petrol mower it's old and small but for what he wanted perfect as he got only small amount of space to move through to front garden any way the thread has gone

it looks as lifting the bar as luck would have it highers the mower hight that I think is a blessing as I could just put spacers in to a set hight but not look good any ideas on making it look good would be great or even better still having the hight adjustment

not entirely clear on what it does, some kind of adjustment for mower height? but if the plastic was threaded, and the thread has pulled out, could you replace it with a nut on the underside on a penny washer?

sorry was on the way out to work when posting yes its the hight ajustment i have thought of a way to sort it there is a bar that goes through the hole attached to a plastic large screw when you twist it it highers and lowers the deak

yes putting a large penny washer and some spacers will be able to set a certain hight and will work but not look great but also was looking for ideas on sorting it so we still have the hight ajustment

the bar its self is just a round bar if it was threaded it would be easy

supose i could swap the bar for some theaded bar could work and that way you could then ajust it ?

Can you cut a thread on the round bar? ... Make up a plate to pop rivet over the hole in the plastic bit ,pass the bar through it and get a wing nut or weld some "wings" on a big nut to adjust it ... What diameter is the bar that varies the cut height ?

cant say for sure the the bar that runs through is small about 7 or 8mm and ive got no taps or dies was some thing was looking at but never got round to the hole it goes in is big as that contained the thread and the screw part goes in and the bar goes through the screw part

not sure there is enought meat on the edge of the plastic hole to rivet some thing to that is allways half the problems when these things arise

You could make a U shaped bracket with flat feet that can be pop riveted on the body of the mower .use washers on the pop rivets underneath so they don't pull through. Get a bit of threaded bar,or a 8mm set screw to weld on the adjustment bar .drill a hole in the bracket "sloppy fit " and put a wing nut on it to make the adjustment ....Without seeing it ,it's hard to be more help ...jeff.. Edit.Right I've just seen that photo ...I think I'd make up a steel bracket thing with nut welded to it and a t bar to twist , and make the up down adjustment ....

it'll be going really soon - like within 18 months or so...

wish my son was as layed back when he got a job needs doing it needs doing yesterday best onew was i done a 14 hour day at work and had to start fixing a mini moto at 9.30 at night


as for the screw taper was not just thinking about weather yours fits but if its a standard thread that i could just buy a nut that will fit and make it fit inside to replace the busted thread

can you not just set the blade height at the one you use regularly and fix it in place. An M10 screwed rod or long bolt, with Nut / washer below, Nut / washer above, set to height desired, tighten, fixed. 10 minutes work then onto the Beer......

mines adjustable, and I think I lowered it when we bought it, and it's never moved since

generaly what i had in mind as a botch but with out the ajustment

will prob go this way after speeking to him but he did say he had never changed the cutting hight since i have given it to him so could do the quick bodge but would be nice to go a little mile to give the ajustment would be the better way

i class a botch job as some thing that is good working but does not look right or is differant than standard
