Nissan Navara lucky owner

as per title how lucky was this guy he asked me about his engine running slightly 'off' he had a problem after filling with fuel and it sounded a little off checked codes and suggested he didnt run it, BUT then that night he went to holyhead 150 round trip miles at 80/90mph------- on this crank pulley

with only 5 teeth left on it and also the bottom chain guide the actual chain had worn completely through the plastic and its ally bracket ,and the engine survived---------- how i'm not sure!

It's still got a few wobbly bits. You lads must be made of money

Its a nissan they have been known to go at 50k !!or less
they have a single chain running the fuel pump that then runs a duplex chain to the the cams, absolutely crazy idea
I replaced it with a modified after market twin chain kit.

What is Nissan doing about the problem?
According to the official statement, the company has ‘put measures in place to quickly resolve the concerns of any customers ( READ MOANED) Nissan is backing customers even though the affected vehicles are up to 12 years old.’

It continues: ‘Depending on the age of the vehicle, these measures include a free and independent inspection of the vehicle where appropriate. If the inspection shows there’s an issue, we’ll do the right thing by the customer under our warranty and customer service policies.’

Is there an official recall on the Navara?
There is no official recall at this stage.

Why is there no official recall?
Largely because Nissan believes this is a maintenance issue rather than a safety issue.

Again from the official statement: ‘As long as these vehicles are properly maintained, serviced and MOT’d they are safe to drive, and therefore we are dealing with each customer on a case-by-case basis.

‘As a standard industry practice, we only recall a vehicle when there’s a safety issue.’

Heavy corrosion is exactly the kind of thing an MOT test is supposed to pick up (no pun intended).

But given the potentially catastrophic results of a failure in the chassis while driving, many owners may wonder why Nissan isn’t proactively seeking to check these Navaras for signs of the problem.

i saw one of them last month on the back of a wagon same as that thought some farm yakker had overloaded it

I dont know what Nissan were thinking of when they put that Renault engine in the Navara, its a total POS. I have had two of them and they have been nothing but grief.What was wrong with using a cabstar engine?

Engine swap last year on one and a complete engine rebuild on the other

I realise what nissan are doing------- they design the engines to self destruct------- just before the chassis snaps then that means they have prevented a safety issue SIMPLE
