I find Toyota Prius are most deadly as they can't be heard at low speed. At least the Teslas tend to be driven by people who give a fig as they're worth so much...

The lack of noise is one of the main reasons i would LOVE an electric car

When they first came out BMW Park Lane used to rag one up and down Park Lane at insane speeds, they sound good with the petrol engine screaming out. I don't think they were exploiting the advertised 135 MPG potential

I'm considering an electric car next year to replace our skoda estate run-about. The new tesla 3 series is more affordable when it appears next year over here but I really need a hatchback for the pooch. Looked at Renault Zoe, about right size and cost even with battery lease, range just about there, only drawback is its a Renault!. Having said that, I would lease anyway so if it was pants it would go back.

Neighbours son has the tesla S. He loves it to bits, he's had a few issues but dealers have been good at sorting them out.

I could do with a utility quad, I can only see one manufacturer of utility electric quads, uses old fashioned batteries and cost 10k so will wait a bit and see what else appears as I'm not desperate, just lazy

I recall the Newcastle Sunbeam trolley bus fleet.

The only sound was the swish of the tyres. Even for a 1940's design they seemed to accelerate faster than any of the cars around them.

Many anecdotes of people being knocked over because they couldn't hear them even though locals were accustomed to them. No idea if any of the tales were true though. Maybe too much Federation ale had been taken?

Lovely things to ride in. Scrapped them and replaced with diseasel buses. Hey ho.

Me too. Considering most modern car engines just produce noise which isn’t nice to hear, diesel engines and whiny 4 cylinders etc. Few of us actually drive V8s with a great tone. Less cabin noise for long drives and quieter roads would be blissful.

Folk will definitely need to start looking before crossing the road. I cycle commute to work so see it almost daily folk stepping out without looking because they can’t hear a car, or if one person steps out folk will follow them without looking for themselves.

Having lived next to the m4 motorway for years I would like to point out that the sound of tyres is far louder than the sound of the engine on most new cars. The heads of the Valleys road - the A465 - has a concrete surface and is incredibly loud.

It's a good job you live at the top of a hill, at least it won't kill the available distance it could do.
Getting back up it full of kids a shopping might be a different story.

What happens in winter in a traffic jam? The heaters must use at least 1kw when it is sub zero. Or conversely on a very hot day aircon uses a lot as well.
