Quite lucky that this unfortunate fire didn't create a dust explosion from the dust created by the sanding operations of your previous neighbour
Following the 1996 montreal protocol the halons were being phased out. The extinguisher type, green bottles were halon 1211, superb fire fighting agent but very carcenogenic, dont use in enclosed spaces as you cant breathe it either. The other was halon1301, used in enclosed spaces, computer rooms engine rooms, turbine enclosures, all the london underground switch rooms post kings cross fire. You only needed 5% by volume to put a fire out, in a well sealed space, and you could breathe it.
The replacments didnt really catch on as you couldnt breathe them and concerntrations were similar to co2. And costs were higher.
Many systems in machinety spaces, turbine enclosures and such wre replaced with " water mist" which is more an un aspirated afff foam spray system.
Bosley Mill was the dust explosion, multiple fatalities
Didcot was demolition of power station, multiple fatalities
I didn't realise it was carcinogenic and having looked at some msds it says it isn't? Spot on with the rest of the info though.
1211 was used in the challenger tanks for explosion supression.
Well my employers Chubb, sold it to the military and was tested by all accounts!I can see that working fast enough. Not. What did it do? Soak up the blood and guts

if the fire don't kill u the fumes of carbon tet on a fire willHalon is for poofs what you need is some Carbon Tet. What can possibly be better for putting out a fire than lobbing in a glass bomb

Explosions do get bigger, just bloody quickly...and of course everthing the MOD buy works. I can't see how a fire suppression system is going to stop or dampen an explosion, it's already happened. Fires get bigger, explosions dont, and I bet there'd be f'all left of any poor sod afterwards for the system to save.
The foam are now red body with a green label covering around 50% of the area.
I cant keep up with all theses changes, when you need a extinguisher you want one quickly, you do not have time to sit down and read the label.![]()

What's in a normal one that's so bad? I was under the impression they were mostly water with a shot of concentrated schmoo. The Green banded foam is "ECO friendly"
Or.
An excuse to print money from a customer, the 6lt ECO foam has a lower fire rating than a normal 6lt foam.
Oh yes, unlike a normal foam charged with nitrogen the ECO one will stink, make you stink make every one and everything near them stink when you use one or open one up for service.
The big difference between them is an ECO unit can be poured down normal drains.

Just like after a road accident, old days fire brigade used a shot of detergent and a hose down. Now wait for environment agency contractor to come and sweep up absorbent granules, by time they arrive its decided the fuel has softened the road surface then the road is shut for the rest of day while they get contractors out to lay some new tarmac.it was deemed "not right" to dump the foams down the storm drains, as it "may pollute water courses"
Don't get me on that.
